I just bought a new 22" Widescreen, upgrading from my 19", which could only run at 1280x1024. But I'm hearing how square monitors are the only way to go now, so I'm kind of regretting it. Are most games supporting of it now? I wanna play games like CoD WAW and Left 4 Dead with the correct ratio and stuff. Will I be fine?

BTW, here's the monitor if anyone wants to check it out, it's a great deal.

I haven't found a new game that doesn't support Wide screen resolutions. It certainly wasn't a mistake to go Wide screen. Those games Certainly are compatible.

Yeah, I have a widescreen as well (1440x900) and I think it's fine. Some games don't support it though (Battlefield 2 and 2142, at least the demo doesn't).

As previously stated, you shouldn't have a problem. I haven't yet on my 21" WS Hanns-G monitor. You'll definitely be running at 1680x1050, and it looks simply astounding compared to the puny resolutions of that other monitor. I made the switch and now have difficulty with the small taskbars on public computers at school and such.

Any Game for Windows title is required to have widescreen support. Most other games coming out will support it as well. For all of those old games that never supported it there is a website you can go to fix them: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/

Just find the game list on that site and then find the game that's not giving you the right aspect ratio or FOV and follow the instructions. Usually all you have to do is edit some values in an INI file and you're done in a few seconds.

I've been using a widescreen monitor for almost 3 years now and now I can't stand 4:3 monitors anymore

there are even ways on how to get widescreen resolutions for those older games (if it's not already covered by a patch) and usually just takes a google to find a solution.
