now i cant remember if alan wake is multiplatform?lIIiya
Vista exclusive and for the XBox 360. Yeesh, they'll have to trim it down for that monstrosity.
I haven't seen anything about Alan Wake's lighting that isn't done better in what I've seen of Far Cry 2's. AW's lighting may have been impressive a couple years ago, and it still looks nice, but it isn't out-of-this-world and is arguably even outdone by other upcoming releases.
Anyway, I still look forward to this game, but it's pretty hard to be hyped about it when all it shows is a fairly unique setting, potentially interesting story, and some impressive lighting. I don't even need to see gameplay, I just want to be given an idea of how it's going to work. Will combat be a big part of the game? Will there be a lot of character interaction? How will the story be developed? What sort of gameplay mechanics will there be? Is it free-roaming, level-based, a mix of both? Just some simple details, that's all I'm asking for at this point. I'm still tracking and anticipating it, but until I at least get an idea of just what you do in this game, it's hard for me to feel anything related to hype.

Yeah okay fair enough. We don't know anything about this game. I've heard talk that it might even be structured like a TV show - different episodes.
Oh c'mon people - there can't be three Uwe Boll's!
Geez, imagine how quickly the movies would come out...
I hope with this game, since its set in a small town, that you will be able to go into any building without a load screen, and that each one will be accurately rendered, not just a copy and paste job like GTA: San Andreas. biggest_loser
Yeah, that'd be nice. I often wish in a lot of games I play that line the streets with a bunch of no-name structures with locked doors that I could explore those buildings. Obviously one cannot reasonably expect quite that much depth in games that have skycrapers all over, but many games that do not have larger constructs just stick to the usual formula of putting buildings in places for show; there's not actually anything inside to look at. So, yes, I too hope for that kind of detail to the AW world.
who cares about Alan Wake..boring NEOSPARKING
So why did you waste time going into the thread to say that? You haven't even played the game to justify that its boring.
What hype? I haven't heard anything about it in over a year.fivex84
Okay thank you we have established many hours ago that the hype has died down if you actually bothered to read the other messages.
MMM...I have a feeling it will do good. The graphics and phyics and all that look very sound and the story sounds mysterious and intriuging. Along with the fact its made by Remedy, makers of Max Payne 1 &2, who proved they could not only create awesome never before seen gameplay along with an awesome unforgettable story we should be in good shape for whenever the game does finally come out!Acurev
Thank you ! We're on the same level! I'm glad you're excited about the game !
I swear to god if I hear the words "what hype" in this thread again yeesh...

You know you just jinxed it, right? :P Some dumbass is going to come in here and say it just because you tempted him to.
No. if you actually bothered to read the messages you would see that i pointed out that we don't know that much about it. biggest_loserI did, and if you'd like me to quote the comments about graphics and physics that we know nothing about because the trailer might as well be canned, then - hah. My idea was wondering why we'd vote for anything other than 'we don't know enough,' since all we really KNOW about the game is that it's being made by Remedy and involves a supposedly trippy plot in... the Pacific NW? We don't really know what the game itself is supposed to do, so there isn't really hype to live up to or not yet. I guess the graphics might count as something. Being Vista-only + 360 immediately gives me bad vibes, though.

Yeah i guess it was a pretty stupid topic thread. I just really wanted to talk about the game.
Thats a pretty cool computer you have there! Im looking to get one like that -similar hardware - can you play Crysis well on that?
I am expecting high on Alan Wake.
mac631
Same. Its been in production for 3 years now and they are a very capable development company.
At first I thought it was a kind of sequel to max payne, but set in the outdoors. I was wrong, but anyhow, this has been an anticipated game of mine for a while. Is it true that it's not coming till 2009 now?screamingdoom
Well i haven't heard of any delays myself. I thought it was meant to be out as early as January - February 2008!
PLEASE!! LET US XP USERS PLAY IT TOO!!!
WE ALREADY KNOW HALO 2 ON VISTA IS A SCAM!
AaAAAaAAAAAaAAAAaAaAAaaa!
Thank you.
Remedy is a great developer and the Max Payne titles were very good -even assuming that I don't like these titles-, and Alan Wake thriller a la "Twin Peaks" sounds very interesting and atractive...
...But the game will be launched only in Xbox 360 and Windows Vista, and these decision will sink the sales on PC and without a doubt will take the game away to me. I have a strong PC (Q6600 oc to 3,0 Ghz, 2 GB DDR2 800 mhz, HD 3850, VX2025wm Viewsonic Display, Z-5500 Digital 505W rms Logitech speaker system) and will be even stronger when purchasing the next high end fom Nvidia, but there is not in my plans to downgrade my XP SP2 to Vista -to me the worst SO for games since Millenium- in this 2008, so this ends most of my interest about the game.
I hype Alan Wake too, but I have no idea why. What are we supposed to expect? All we know is that it has pretty graphics and it's a psychological action thriller. What ever that means when it comes to games.
All we need to know is that it's done by Remedy, right?
Idon't get it. What is there to hype about that game? Looks decent, nothing more. I liked Max Payne games, but they are not that good. I don't see why AW has to be a AAA just because Remedy is developing it.

You're kidding me right? Not that good? They have completely redefined the combat system in games. Its arguably the best third person game ever made. You, like most of us, don't know enough about this game to judge it. Just because you didn't like Max Payne, yeesh....hippy.

You could still get it on Xbox 360 if you had one. Whats so bad about Vista? I still have W2K!

Namely, the lower performance. That's the main thing I still don't like about it. Many people say its performance is a mere 2-3% worse now. BS. On my father's computer, which has an E6400, an 8800GTS 320MB, and 4GB of RAM, and it can run Crysis at all high settings at 1024x768 in XP without any big framerate problems. In Vista, everything has to be dropped to medium to maintain the same performance.
EDIT - He uses a dual boot system, that's why he has both OS's.

I did not say Max Payne games are bad, just not as out-of-this-world fantastic as some people like to portrait them (that's why I wrote that in cursive letters). And it's NOT the best third person games ever made. I think a lot of people would agree with me on this one. Like you said: neither I, you or anyone else than the devs know diddly squat about this game, we've seen some screenshots and vids with little information about the game itself. That's why I think it looks decent (=decent gfx and some decent physics), I tend to judge games based on gameplay, story, chars and atmosphere, not on how great teasers/tech demos look. One more thing, this is the second or third time you call me hippie, I am not my avatar you know. I just like that particular GTA-character.

Just on that last point.....are you sure? I mean its not a bad photo and all, quite the party goer you must be with a well groomed beard like that. A bit like mine ahem...anywho...
It just sounded like you were judging the game, thats all. You said "looks decent, nothing more". I thought you were implying that it might just be all eye candy - a bit like your beard - and nothing else. Oh well. Lets just wait till it comes out shall we my ol' friend? I'm sure it will be a great game.
Could you justify why Max Payne is not the best 3rd Person game (PC I'm talking about - I dont want to hear about God of Law - the game where you have to track down ancient bits of the Constitution, Gears of war, war war war...San Andreas for Ps2 in its apparent glory..) yeah thats all i could think of? I'm a bit on the uhhh...how can I put this in a polite way? The acid side of things? Ahem..no not really, I just needed an excuse for why i cant think of any console 3rd person shooters...i'm old okay!! lol
