Guys, I need your opinions here.

PCI SIG says that the VIA K8M890 chipset supports pcie 1.0a.
http://www.pcisig.com/developers/compliance_program/integrators_list/pcie/

I've read at several forums and at wikipedia that pcie 1.0a boards have compatibility issues with the 8800 GT.

So you guys who have experienced or know something about my problem please help! :?

I think there are backwards-compatibility issues with PCI-e 1.0a. If my memory serves, PCI-e 1.1 and on are just fine, but some really old boards may have problems running a card like the 8800GT.

Why not just pick up the older 320MB 8800GTS or something? Those cards are pretty cheap now, and you're still geting one hell of a good card.

Thanks for the info. but the additional money I would add is enough to buy me a pci-express 2.0 motherboard.

I think i'll just better buy an 8800 GT and a pcie 2.0 mobo. Is that a good idea?

no games can push a graphcis card hard enough to use the extra bandwidth that pci-e 2.0 offers

ur best with 1.1 like msot boards

Yes but the price difference between a pci 1.1 and a 2.0 is almost non-existent. I think
I'll still have to go on with a pci-e 2.0 board instead of a 1.1 for future-proofing my PC setup.

Does anybody here has a K8m890 chipset mobo that managed to handle an 8800GT card?

Yes but I don't want to spend that much on a mobo.

Im planning to get the ECS A770M-A mobo which costs only $69.99.

It supports AM2+ CPUs like the Phenom Quad-Core and AM2 CPUs.
HyperTransport 3.0 and of course PCIe 2.0.
