I never played the original Deus Ex... I think I might have tried the demo for Deus Ex: Invisible War.

1- Basically can someone quickly explain the story of part 1 and 2... and how this new PREQUEL Human Revolution fits in

2- Is it like Mass Effect but more RPG based?

I will try it for sure, hopefully I will like it. I love a good sci-fi setting and story...

First rule of Deus Ex is Invisible War never happened (yes, its that bad).

1. The game takes hints from the real world and uses organizations or conspiracies that exist in the plot. The story itself revolves around a bunch of groups struggling for control of the world and the issues of transhumanism. It is hard to explain because the game is something you experience. The prequel looks like it will put a huge emphasis on the transhumanism issue, Deus Ex touches on it but the issue isn't at the forefront like it will be in Human Revolution.

2. Thankfully no. You can fire from the hip without taking time to ready your aim but it will get you killed more often then not. The game forces you to stand still and take focus on a target which makes the crosshair more accurate. Upgrading the corresponding weapon skill lets you focus faster. There are other skills like hacking and lockpicking which take items and upgrades make you need to use less of those items. By the way, don't take the swimming skill because its utterly useless.

Don't judge the game from Liberty Island though. It takes to the old school philosophy of a very slow start that grips you suddenly and doesn't let go until the finale.

Whiteblade999

If you dont take swimming you cant be a landshark! A FRIGGIN LANDSHARK, oh and do take environmental training as well, awesome that one is.

But as said, dont judge the game on the first hour of play, it has a rather steep learning curve and can be frustrating at times, but it is one of the best games I have ever played.

Also if you are planing on playing the game now, you might wanna look for the Dx 10 mod, makes it look a little bit better on a larger screen.

Here you go, try the first 10 hours of gameplay. NOTE: THIS IS NOT ILLEGAL OR AGAINST GAMESPOT LAWS, this was a publicy released version of the game that the developers want people to play. Link http://fileserve.com/list/9eQW2jt

It was actually leaked but the publisher did 'encourage' people to play it for feedback. Can someone confirm that the link isn't a virus? Its not that I don't trust you but a random site with a download isn't exactly encouraging for him to play if you know what I mean.

@creaturemagic

Yes, it's a publicly released legal demo that requires a crack  which is why the publisher is suing the pirates that leaked it illegaly

And the OP was asking about the original Deus Ex, not Human Revolution.

@OP

The game is quite dated and can be hard to get into. I tried to start playing it several times but thought the game was quite bad judging from the first level. It wasn't till my 5th reinstall (and after installing several graphic mods) that I actually forced myself past the first few hours. The game gets a lot better later on and it grows on you. The soundtrack is definitely the best part of the game. Great game, but not in my TOP 5 RPGs, and not as good as Mass Effect.

As for Invisible War, that extra crappy game never happened

I wouldn't really know since I didn't play it when it came out. Nowadays, the load times are pretty effortless, though.

I played it like a year ago, the loadings sucked as hell. I save/load pretty often to see different outcomes and seeing a 2 minute loading every 5 seconds is not my idea of fun.

And I'm not even getting into to the fact that the story made no sense, as well as the lack of Deus Ex's awesome music.

I'm pretty sure that Human Revolution will be a very accessible game regardless of whether you played the first two or not.

It is NEVER too late to play a good game ^^ But from what I tested, (I did it officialy thank you very much, even got payed) it is not like mass effect, exept the cover system maybe, depending on how you play it ranges from splinter cell like game play to run and gun a la Gears of war, but it also has a large RPG part, where you just walk around in the city and talk to people, explore things and so on. It might be a little bit early for me to say this, but from the games I have played this year, Deus Ex: HR is by far the best.

Considering that many people such as myself consider the original Deus Ex to be the greatest game of all time. It certainly is never too late to play it. The graphics and mechanics are somewhat dated but the story/atmosphere/music have arguably never been surpassed since it was made. Invisible War isn't that bad but in comparison to the first it is a small mouldy potato.

I've resisted the urge to play the leaked version of the new Deus Ex, specifically because I have been waiting 11 years for it and waiting another couple months for the completed version will not kill me. I've heard it's awesome though.

Considering that Deus Ex 3 (now Human Revolution) was first announced in 2007, how have you been waiting 11 years for it? Enlighten me.

Yeah, except over here in reality Deus Ex 2 happened, and he probably expected it to be good. But he realized it wasn't, so he had to wait for Deus Ex 3 for roughly 8 years, give or take.

Well if you really enjoy nittpicking...

I just explained the whole 11 years wait. And tbh, when you play a sequel and realise its not really a worthy/quality sequel and quite frankly sucks major bawls, the whole waiting thing is even harder to take, nostalgia and stuff....

Think Dragon Age 2. Maybe not that bad, but i'm still waiting for a sequel to Origins.

Are you trolling or have you just not read the news, I dont know and it makes me confused. Any way, turning off shiny quest objectives as we called them, was among the first things they fixed after the first beta, it is just to turn it off in the gameplay menu.

FelipeInside

1. You play a biologicially augmented agent named JC Denton. You are a rookie, fresh out of the academy, working for UNATCO, the United Nations AntiTerrorists Coalition. It is the early 21st century and the world has taken a turn for the worst, especially the US. The atmosphere is one of depression and woe, as there is a plague and terrorism is rampant. For the first few hours of the game you play the typical superagent, killing terrorists, preventing crime, and rescuing hostages. As time goes on, you begin to realize (through various NPCs) that there is more than meets the eye, and global conspiracies ensue. I won't tell you more, because frankly the plot is one of the better film noir scifi I have ever experienced

2. No. Far from Mass Effect. Mass Effect plays more like Quake or Doom compared to Deus Ex :P

To sum up, Deus Ex is a real-time first-person RPG...to call it an action game would be a grave mistake. So, yes, while you have a crosshair and access to guns, you can't go running through levels shooting all over the place. That will get you killed, waste ammo, and worse. Deus Ex requires patience and an assessment of the environment.

Example: if there are too guards, and one is patrolling, there are a variety of different ways to take them out. You can taser the stationary guy when the guard walks past him; you can wait until theyre both next to that crate of TNT; you can silently take them out with your silenced pistol.

The stat-building aspect of the game will, however, seem relatively shallow relative to other action-RPGs. There are about 10 skills, ranging from pistols to heavy weapons, and computers to lockpicking. Augmentations, which you gain over the course of the game, give some more choice, but overall you will not find anything relating to **** STAM STR AGIL WIS, or perks or skills. Deus Ex is an RPG in the purest sense of the word; it forces the player to role-play, to immerse themselves into the game and into the character of JC Denton. If youre frustrated at the beginning of the game because it takes a while for your pistol to focus and become accurate, it is because Denton is a noob at his job :P

While I personally loved every single moment of the game, a lot of people seem to object to the first level or hour or so. Give Deus Ex a chance, and you will be greatly rewarded.

Diophage

on its own? no, its not that bad

relative to Deus Ex? Yes, it is an abomination. iirc Spector said so himself

Deus Ex: Invisible War received largely positive reviews, receiving an average score of 80 for the Windows version and 84 for the Xbox version on Metacritic.[1][2] Fan response to Invisible War is notable for being quite split. User rankings on MobyGames for instance are around 3.5 out of five for both versions of the game,[20][21] while Metacritic users awarded 6.2 out of 10 for the Windows version and 7.4 out of 10 for the Xbox

Like I said, objectively it is adequate, but the fans have spoken

As someone has already said, I played Deus Ex and I have been waiting for a worthy sequel ever since. Invisible War was not a worthy sequel. Thus I have been waiting 11 years for someone to make one. Quite literally I might not even be a gamer if I had not played Deus Ex. It is the singular reason I got into gaming. My anticipation for this game is epic to say the least. I pre-ordered it last year.

I played the leaked beta and Damn! Gameplay is awesome its almost exeactly like Rainbow Six Vegas 2 witch is one of my favorite games of all time.

Only problem i didn't play it more than 15min, cuz my graphic card has corrupt memory and there are texture spikes all over the place so i couldn't see mutch... Do not buy from Gainward. Anyways game is super awesome from what i seen, can't wait to get a new graphic card.
