I like Windows 7 still. But, I wouldn't mind if I bought a new laptop and it came with Windows 8.

Google will tell you anything, if you want to be told, because of that you'll see that Jiggly never misspelled Linux, not even once.
His posts carry meaning, in a deep and profound way.

I'm still on Vista on my old machine. If I were to get a new machine, would you all recommend 7 or 8?psx_warriorEither one.

I'm getting a new monitor with my tax return, and I like to try new things in the tech world. Back when I initially read about Windows 8, I was interested in maybe getting a touchscreen monitor to compliment the new direction Windows is heading. Then I started hearing intial reports about how dissatisfied people are with the new metro interface and the fact that Microsoft is going to require Microsoft certification for games and other apps available on their new OS, and am now leaning towards skipping Windows 8 and getting a 3D capable monitor instead. Windows 8 is AWFUL - worse than Vista. I've used the beta quite a bit. It's easily one of the worst version of Windows EVER and I've been using since Windows 3.1/early 90s.

not rly, if any person wants to play any pc game then they know they must install windows, why would he waste time and money to port steam to linux?
i really think it's because microsoft wants to hold back pc gaming specially with the new policies of windows 8.

What are those policies?

You have some problems, not everything is a conspiracy, use your head, software developers love money, more customers, more money, selling on more platforms = more customers = more money, money and developers are BFFs they would ditch anyone to be together. Software you install on your OS has absolutely nothing to do with the limitations MS imposes on their own digital store, another place where you should, for the love of God, use your head already, this has been discussed ever since Gabe found a cheap way to promote his new money making move, selling "productive" software making it a direct competition to the preinstalled MS store on Win 8.What policies are that? Too lazy to look them up and read, but, I'm guessing they want royalties for windows games like they would get on the 360? If thats true I think their only hope is DX12, and even that might not be enough since many (most?) pc gamers game on med/low options. Hell didn't CoD fans pounce when they said BO2 wouldn't have DX9 support or something?i really think it's because microsoft wants to hold back pc gaming specially with the new policies of windows 8.

I'm pretty sure I got a free Windows 8 upgrade when I bought my laptop a few months ago so I guess I'll upgrade.
tried it on my spare system.
the new UI is less straightfoward (put it slightly) than the cLassic windows styIe, but easy enough to figure out; getting used to it is simply a matter of time. though I have no idea why MS changed the way the "Start" key works. the change actually makes the OS not as easy to use as previous versions. for one thing, the first time I tried out windows 8, I actually had to crusor around to find a way to turn the system off~~"
however, 8 is no vista: it's quite stable and basically 7 with new UI.
not going to make the switch for my two main rigs, not yet; not until windows 8 is proved to be a better OS than 7 for gaming.

It'll take some time before game devs start optimizing their titles specifically for Windows 8, I think we'll be fine for the time being.

The anti-new OS threads look the same with each new version of Windows. If I paid for my MS software I wouldn't be in any huge rush to run out and upgrade but since I don't I'm running it on almost all of my non-Server OS computers in my house (6 right now).
I'm not a huge fan of Metro or the Metro UI apps since they aren't Windowed but in spite of these new features all the core OS stuff works great. The general interface is blazing fast, particularly on SSDs. Here are a couple youtube vids I made of fast boot time and opening Office apps:

I'm using it for work, gaming and media PCs and it runs great.
