Thats awsome lol your awsome but I think PC gaming will be around for a LONG time longer than console gaming because does console gaming have awsome games? Very few. And PC's are uber mega backwards compatible. Can you play SNES games on your Wii? NOPE!I'm getting tired of hearing stuff like this. :)

[QUOTE="FlameMe"]While many PC fanboi's will flame you for this post, your are very correct.
I love PC Gaming, much more then cosole gaming, always have and always will. But the sad trueth is I and many people, cannot afford PC gaming. The new Next Gen concol's(PS3, Xbox360) cost between 400-600$ and will be good for probably 5 years. A gaming rig to run todays best games is atleast $800+ and will really only run these best games for 2 years.
So for me, I am moving away from PC gaming. I'm 23 years old, I work full time, go to college, and rent my OWN townhouse, and I'm starting my own company, PC gaming is no longer in the budget, I use my PSP and Wii much more now.

but once you own one the upkeep is relatively small.it's just the initial purchase that can be prohibitive. and most people make the mistake of assuming they need to buy a whole new rig instead of seeing what they can re-use from their existing setup.
when i got a ps3a controller and two gamesi paid over $800 so price isn't so much different.
Exactly, you're not buying brand new parts every year and the cost for upgrades these days is relatively cheap.
The three main things that effect performance (CPU, GPU and RAM) are all inexpensive right now. You can buy 2GB of DDR2 RAM on-line now for less than $100. Intel will be dropping the price of their leading quad core 2 duo chip later this week to $266! You can also get a really good GPU (8800 GTS 320 MB) for about $250, that will play any game coming out in the near future at the highest res with all the graphics options turned to high.
you only need to look at some of the great titles coming out, to show you PC gaming is still here and very strong :-) granted consoles probally do have a bigger share of the pie so to speak but at the end of the day you do what you enjoy the most.
I personally think these days the 360&PS3 are more or less PCs wrapped up in a small box CPU,Ram,Video,Hardrive etc... only Proprietary. But like I said you only have to look around these boards and this sites E3 stuff to check out some of the upcoming PC stuff ;)
The problem is that PC's are much more expensive than consoles and require upgrades much more frequently. But my true issue is that the PC doesn't have all the real big franchises like Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid or Halo that made certain consoles what they are. Even GTA, while ithas been on the PC, actually originating from the PC, it is better known for the PS2 version. Sure most of the titles I mentioned before have eventually found their way on to PC, sometimes their just tired ports and those that are good travel bellow the radar. And for me that's the only real problem with the PC.PoP999606
Well there are many more exclusive games on the PC which the consoles don't have, so it is just personal preference of which games you lke more and not a problem with PCs
a better question would be, will this thread ever die?
...as you can see by the PSN in my sig i have one of those consoles... but saying that PC gaming will become a thing of the past, imagine the largest font size in you life and then format this to that size:LOLZ. Bro, PC will gain power faster than conoles. the only thing that could kill the PC is if they keep jacking up the prices on the parts that you need for a high-end PC. i perfer console gaming, but i must have my dose of pc in the mix.
Different people will always have different reasons to believe. It's not only about the performance or the satisfaction we get from the PC games; it's also about the money we are spending for it. I've spent 2550$ within this last four years only for pc gaming and you'll find people spending even more than that. What do you think, how long this will continue? Isn't it obvious that, someday I'll lose my interest on spending money for PC gaming and switch to console? I wish I don't have to, but bro..is it only the graphics and speed we are interested to? Most of us still prefer better game play then better graphics.
I know PC game will never die; at least we won't let it. Isn't it that we are the only one who is caring about its existence? When I buy a new graphics card, I get special offers or discount, sometime free game with it. Is it enough?? The generation of PC is rising with a geometric ratio now a day and the number of high regulation game too. It's hard to keep up bro..unless you are rich enough. So, will it only be for those who can effort to buy it or who loves and live their life with gaming.

So you cant afford pc gaming but can afford to buy a console and experience the "next gen" that console games can offer? Ie; PS3 £400, HDTV £1000 cables £20? Game £40 - Damn near £2000.
If you think about it the argument about PC gaming being more expensive is silly. You spend what £800 on a gaming pc? And you have EVERYTHING you'll ever need. The exrta £1000 odd pounds that you have saved from not buying the PS3 and what is ness to make it NEXT GEN/High res, you keep to upgrade your PC overtime. The PCgames are cheaper also and are much more of...there fore the costs of owninga pc somewhat are levelled out somewhere along the line.
So what does this mean? You have a PC that can be UPDATED with the LATEST tech, and not just a console that you spend silly amounts of money on which tech stays the SAME throughout its lifespan. Which would you prefer:?
Im no a fanboi as you put it, i have a 360 also, but im not blind to the obvious facts of PC gaming and its advantages, nor am i unaware of the fact that the costs are somewhat the same in comparison. This argument shouldnt be about whether people can afford it, because if you can afford a console with an hdtv, theres no reason why you cant afford a gaming PC and keep it updated with all the money youd save from not buying a console. The argument should also stay in the direction of facts, and not presumptions that not everyone can afford pc gaming. :)
Hmm i dont think money will be a troble in the future, i will earn more and more for each year and be able to build better and better systems... Playing strategy games on console is not fun, well at least thats my view, so ill stay on pc forever. Dont care how much they put in the boxes, but as i said earlier, consoles are nice for back up :)

well i guess, i'll also have to keep onspending for playing better games. like i did for caesar-IV and spider man; buying another 512 RAM and upgrading my AGP. sometimes i feel helpless though for my addiction for PC games.
and you are ture, consoles are nice for back up...
I dont think it will, becuasse to me pc games seem to have more detail in them and not just graphics, but more detail in the game storyline, plot, levels, but that just me.I think the heavy gamers main platform should be a pc,but dont phase out on the consols.with all these sophisticated and powerful gaming consoles being unveiled, will PC gaming becomea thing of the past?
dev_ron
While I'm just a casual gamer and still prefer to play on my PC, I think there might come a point when I'm better off gaming on consoles rather than my PC. Right now, to keep up with and get the most out of today's power-hungry PC games, I have to upgrade to a faster processor, get a much more powerful video card, and add RAM to my PC. With all these new upgrades, wouldn't it be much more cost effective to buy a gaming console, let it do its thing, and not bother upgrading my PC?
THERE HAS TO BE A WAY OUT FOR THE PC GAMERS.....UNLESS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alright these discussion are just plain wasteful. Its been debated for years and years after the release of any console that PC gaming is going to die. If you acually look at the facts its been growing. While I am not a fan of it Wow has over 8 million subscribers or so. X-box live by itself for all its games has I believe 6 million. If I am wrong someone say so. Also PC has already jumped to the next level of graphics with dx-10 and such. Crysis is coming exclusive to PC and I think it will be on of the best FPS's out there. To bad UT3 is cross platform.
Also they just finished inventing a quantam computer!!! You should check it out. You could just have this little box and you could do anything you want with it. It could be your cpu, gpu, and whatever else you want to. its reads binary as 01 and so somehting that would take like 10 years to crack for a regular computer would take it second sor minutes. SO if you can't say anything is dying becuase it always is evolving. Like many people gaming will someday just converge together to one gaming platform where everyone goes to game. Pc is not going to die nor are console but I am sure eventually they will meld.
also like some of you said before its definatly cheaper to go to consols, and like some of you said before you dont have to wory about this game or that game working or not.But like the wii it has the neet remotes, gets you a little more active, its kind of like a family consol,ps3 and xbox 360 the heavy consol gamers,pc the ultimate gamers, that s just my thoughts.zvgzdhfhffr

sadly, yesonurucaAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH:shock:the horror
So why would computer gaming be a thing of the past in years to come? Computers would evolve repeatedly as the technology get better. Computers let us have continuous hours of fun so why, i repeat, WHY would anyone give up playing on a computer so early in the electrical tecknology. Unless of course global warming kills us before we kill it.......

think of the global market situation bro, rather than global warming. Those days aren't far enough, when people with average earnings won't be able to efforta better gaming pc. if I talk about your post, i might switch on far away from the main topic. so let just consider the possibilities might happen in future.....
[QUOTE="onuruca"]sadly, yesdev_ron
we'd love to hear your point of view bro...
You'd love to hear it to make it 2 people in here that actually believe Pc gaming will die:P
But seriously, considering the trend of technology, ie: PC's being ahead of consoles, although demand is not there for PCs as much, its like the PC tech does all the background work whilst consoles STEAL the advancement :D theives i tells ya!!!!
Anyway, its not going to die dev_ron, simply becuase its always evolving, and you cant just halt evolution like that. I think the pc is in its "humble stage", then one day BLAM!!!! BIG ADVANCE IN tech becomes apparent.
Ill repost when iv woken up :)

The good thing about technical advancement is that, it never brings us any lose rather than improving our tastes. Take an example of Sega- when the PC game boomed on this generation, Sega gamers thought of they will be perished for ever. But they didn't because the generation also bought PS2 and other console games to Sega lovers. Some of them did switch to PC games, but the basic remains the same. I've friends who only use PC for job purpose. They don't even bother playing games in PC. They loved the concept of Sega and they've stuck to the concept. Obviously the price is a factor here but I think at the end of the tunnel the price factor loses to our interest. We buy new upgrades because we want to stick to our interests.
Steeling in technologies is a concept which drives us to move fast. If there were no steeling, we'd have been slower to our progress bro. So, let them do the steeling for us...we'll see better upgrades.:D
The PC will not become a thing of the past, High End Gaming systems are, If I am not mistaken, far superior to consols.
Simple as this, if you don't have 4,000 dollars to buy a High End PC, go ahead and buy a consol.
PC Pros:
Better graphics.
can use third party programs to mod games.
Internet browser. (Faster then Consols)
PC Cons:
Takes alot of money to build a PC that can give you more then a consol can, performance wise.
Viruses (Not an issue if you have a good fire wall)
Crashing.
Can be a jungle for people that don't know to much about PCs.
Consol Pros:
One payment toward a consol and no need for an upgrade.
Usually runs smoother then a PC.
With an Plasma Or LCD HDTV it will look better then on a PC monitor. (Unless of course people hook their PC up to a TV)
Consol Cons:
Games cost more than PC games (Usually)
Graphics aren't as good as a High End PC.

$4,000 dollars??You pay that much for a high end pc??? i payed £800 for mine!!!
The bitsi highlighted are a bit sketchyi feel. Ie: The " one payment for a console and no need for upgrade", i feel this is a con as well as a pro....simply because of the fact, that consoles CANT be upgraded....therefore will not keep up with the latest in advancing tech. Know what i mean?
"Console runs smoother than a pc?" - a tad subjective maybe, maybe you meant more user friendly, but i dont know about running smoother.
Why would an hdtv with a console look better than a pc with an LCD Monitor with native of i dunno 1680x1050? Depends entirely on your monitor and the grapx card you use.
I understand you were giving arguments for both, and thats cool. but just thought id add my 2 pence.:)

Why the **** are there even threads like this?
As long as computers are on this earth.. there will be PC games.., that is if you use a console can file your taxes and pay your bills, as well as shop :)
Businesses use computers to do a variety of different things.. employees sometimes get caught playing a round of solitaire or minesweeper. Or get caught surfing the web, or even chatting online.
Don't tell me minesweeper isn't a game.. because it darn well is!
Games require a lot of power? I guess those Pop Cap games DO require a Core 2 Duo.. oh wellz
BTW, I still play games like STALKER and COH on an old Pentium 4 3.6
Heck, Rise of Legends (2006) ran on my older comp a P4 2.0 Ghz using a Ti 4200 128mb
You can get the same setup nowadays for around maybe 300 dollars maybe even less.
