I think it's worth waiting, yes. Because in 2 months there should be GTX 680s and 7870s with custom PCBs and voltage tweak option. I don't expect any significant price drops, but if you see something on a sale that you like you can grab it before the rest of the system.
while is system wouldn't max guild war 2 i think he should get the games first (Beta) and then see how it go then upgrade when game out so he get the max potential if it only guild war II he care about. if it was for skyrim / other game even so id wait ivy bridge which release in about 2 week of now
because if it just for Guild War 2 he can get a system that max it include AA now at about 700$ Everything include aside of a monitor
It's all about you mate, if you feel like you should get it now, then go for it, if you think you can wait, no probs either. As for me, i had to get it now because my old build fried.Guild Wars 2 is finally on the horizon and my new rig must be built soon. Do you think it's worth waiting another 2 months to build or not? Spending $1500 regardless. It's a new rig not an upgrade :)
why would you spend 1,500$ ?! regardless ? what other game you want to play then Guild war II ? what ur expectation ? also if you bios flash i think ur am2+ of 2007 does indeed support Phenom II X4
but if you really want a overpowerufl rig : then you will wait ivy bridge i5 / i7 Generation III which come end of april for sure in stock with Z77 but im yet to see all what those Z77 Offer from asus / gigabyte / msi / asrock : so far biostar / ECS doesn't look that good
he could go fm2... if things are as good as amd advertises. 25% better on avg vs phenom II or phenom fx hexawhy would you spend 1,500$ ?! regardless ? what other game you want to play then Guild war II ? what ur expectation ? also if you bios flash i think ur am2+ of 2007 does indeed support Phenom II X4

I want a new rig. I usually make a new build last me about 4 years. lol it doesn't matter why I'm buying it does it? :D Just wondering who could tell me about new tech in the coming 2 months. Once I make some more decisions on the components I'll post them to get some good input. Thanks for the suggestions though!
and again, it's a new rig not an upgrade. All new parts :D lol

4 years is a long time, 2 months is not, build now it doesnt matter. The only thing that might change is aftermarket coolers for graphics card and price change, which may drop or even go up during that time. Its fine if you want the thing to last 4 years, but the gpu is the first to go and can never last as long as you want it, its best to upgrade them every 1-2 year or so, also ram if you skimped out during the initial build.

that the problem ... if he with a 1,500$ build which is my point i rather suggest he go with what he need now for 800-1000$ then later on if he need more power let say 2 year in future : then he add in another card or buy a new card so il explain to TC some scenario
IE : you buy the following
Processor i5 Ivy Bridge 3570K with a Z77 (DELUXE / PRO ) For Crossfire / SLI possiblity withHigh End cpu Cooler : Hyper 212 EVO / havik 120 / Havik 140 are example : then you overclock ur cpu from @3.4Ghz to @4.5 or 4.7Ghz
New PSU if Crossfire / SLI Current can Keep up 750-850W in sales
New Decent Video card : 200-550$ up to you GTX 560 TI 448 / GTX 570 / HD7870 / GTX 670 (confirmed MAY) / GTX 680 and let say in 2-4 year you lack of power you get a second one :
And ur problem solved : and you don't have to go : OMG IL buy a new RIG CPU / MOBO / PSU / GPU / case / HDD / plz last 4 year cuz that ain't logic
Now all that Left is if you want better monitor / Better mice / keyboard because doing this will assure you a Extreme Gaming of Performances till 2015 without need of cpu change unless you venture into EyeFinity (3x monitor 1080P) if ur into that
You have a very very good point :) You're both right. I'll need a new Vid before 4 years, but regardless my limit is $1500 so I'm going to spend it :DYou are under the mistaken impression that your new graphics card will last as long as that 8800

why 1,500$ now ? if you don't need it now ? what other games you want to play ? and add anti aliasing ? and SSAO ? because else you will pretty much end to a 1,200$ Setup and then later on get a second gpu if you want more power because you will not need more ram then 8GB for gaming
so you might pick 1600mhz /1800mhz / 2133mhz 2x4GB memory from 40 to 120$ and you won't ever need more memory then that unless something change in a 3-4 year and that game start to use more then 4GB Of memory for any performances gain : which leave you to put a SSD if you really want a SSD into the budget
because if we go now a new setup sticking with the current psu which can power up ur setup . we are at 230$-300 CPU : 150-200$ mobo Cpu Cooler 30-70$ : 40-100$ ram : 200-550$ video card : 80-160$ A case :
then add-on stuff like new monitor [$$$]? mice ?[$$] keyboard [$$$]? SSD [$$$$]? * note SSD give no performances gain just loading time)
