Will S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat or Metro 2033 be better?

I liked Shadow of Chernobyl, but I was pretty disappointed with Clear Sky, so I'm not sure to trust Call of Pripyat. Stalker has a slightly better art style, but like I said, I'm not sure if I trust Stalker really and was wondering if I should get Metro 2033 instead.

I know these games aren't released yet, but if anyone has any thoughts, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think you can check out many reviews of STALKER Call of Pripyat at Metacritics.com.

it has average of 78/100. so, it won't be a masterpiece nor close to Shadow of Chernobyl.

Metro 2033, on ther other hand, looks promising to me.

^ OK, well. I should rephrase my question. If Call of Pripyat is good, then I would probably get that. But if it is bad (like Clear Sky was yuck!), then I'd get Metro 2033 instead. Do people think Call of Pripyat will be good or bad? Thanks for answering, by the way.

while I do think that SoC was better than Clear Sky, Metacritic scores sorta match my ideas.

here is the list

Shadow of Chernobyl: 82/100

Clear Sky : 75 / 100

Call of Pripyat: 78/100..

I can roughly estimate that Call of Pripyat will be better than clear skybut not good as SoC.

Metro 2033 will be a linear driven game. Which means that the game will feature more story and characters than Shadow of chernobyl and more simplistic and easy plus more polished combat. However it wont have stalker big maps. Anyway i will go for metro 2033. Why play ANOTHER stalker, when you can get a brand new diffirent game instead?

Yeah, I'll end up getting both, although I'm not getting Stalker on release date (learned my lesson with Clear Sky's bugs.)

It only has 6 reviews, one of which is a trollercoaster. Metacritic doesn't feature too many Eastern European and CIS reviews. The general consenus is that CoP is much better than Clear Sky and almost as good as SoC.

It was released a few months ago and it wasn't really buggy. Obviously the international version will be great.

For the STALKER lore, I recommend reading 'Roadside Picnic' by the Strugatsky Bros. And you'll either like both games or neither in my book. I'll end up getting them both, I'm sure. 8)

Thanks, this all helps me out with my decision. It (call of pripyat) releases next week (Feb 2nd) so it'll be soon when we actually have some other reviews.

From what Ive read and heard on forums, and reviews (lucky me that Im european and can read german I guess :S), it is pretty much the same thing they bring up.

CoP is alot like SoC, it has even less humans, and a bigger emphathys on exploration then the other two. It is a more "lonely" experience, with the land again having a bigger role (was missing all together in CS).

A lot of the systems from CS has been implemented, reparing/modifying, finding anomalties and artifacts, and guides to lead you.

It is an entirely new area, quite different, altho most reviews and users on forums say that things are placed fairly near one another, and stashes has been reworked.

bugs are near none existent sofar, and the game runs alot better then any of the previous games ever did, and looks good.

It gets marks down for being shorter then the two other games (around 15 or so hours), and the graphics engine shows age, so altho effects are still very good, the same muddy textures are fairly much like those you saw in SoC or CS.

Oh and the story is said to be good for once O.o

Metro 2033 is pretty much unproven, but looks quite good, there is not really alot of exploration, since it is a corridor shooter, and the novel it is build on is quite good.

Despite being a corridor shooter, this one might turn out decent, it does have good graphics, altho That aspect never ment much to me.

They do promise that the game will not be like FO3s metro system, but a far more unique set of areas. The game focuses on alot of what stalker focuses on, with no big surprise since there is more then a handful of the original Stalker guys working on this one aswell. Even voice acting is done by some of the same people from time to time ;).

Out of the gate, I will get CoP first, it is the cheaper game, and STALKER is a proven francise to me. Metro is not, I plan on getting it, but if it gets a really low score (doubt it) Ill pass.

Both games appeal to me, so I am getting both :P

Well, if you trust those reviews that much, that is. This is not exact math, something so particular as a game world must be "measured" (if so) by the ones who "fit their premises"; not rarely we see a hands-down fan of something completely different (some other genre or type of game) reviewing what he/she was not supposed to, for the sake of accuracy.

The first Stalker should have gotten at least a 9, IMO.

I will no doubt buy the new installment, when the English version comes out; and the only way I'm not getting Metro 2033 is if reviewers all over crucify it like they did with Rogue Warrior: because we can't trust them 100% but, on the other hand, we also can't ignore the obvious... :)

EDIT: @Maddie_Larkin above: telling from what you wrote, Prypiat looks not only amazing, but an absolute must-have.

STALKER games are great, for those who like the games, it's always worth a try. I dunno about Metro 2033, it looks like it has very good graphics and atmosphere, and some very interesting game mechanics, like bullets being used as currency, gas mask (hope this one will be better than NecrovisioN's), and other cool stuff. Since we haven't seen much from Metro 2033, I really can't say.

That was actually one of the biggest turn-offs of Clear Sky for me. In Shadow of Chernobyl, you could go where you wanted, when you wanted, but with Clear Sky, you had to find a guide who essentially acted as a "teleport." It kind of ruined the experience for me, as well as broke the flow of the game. That mechanic in Clear Sky slowed it down (i thought) wheras Shadow of Chernobyl was much faster and smoother.

Good post though, we'll see.

Different games as said above Metro 2033 is a linear game based on a book set after a nuclear war in russia, stalker isnt. stalker is set in the post dissater chernobyl in the ukraine, it is more of a free roam game. in wish people who stop comparing them, they are not massively alike.

I have already finished CoP some time ago (it was released in Switzerland in November). If you like Shadow of Chernobyl you will also like Call of Pripyat. It is more focused and clearly better than Clear Sky in my opinion. I just hope Metro 2033 will be as good as CoP.

If you compare them you are going to be dissapointed, the gameplay will most likely be hardly anything like stalker, so dont start thinking it is going to be like stalker

The more I read about Metro, the more it seems like a very promising game, it does soom to have a freeroaming openworld aspect to it of sorts, which I did not expect (or is just very poorly conveyed by the inormation we have of it so far.

Pretty much sums up how I feel. I enjoy the Stalker games quite a bit, and since Metro 2033 seems like more of the same but "fresh" as they say, Im more excited for that.

I am more excited for Call of Pripyat, which I know is going to be good. Like said earlier, we don't really know much about metro 2033 gameplay wise. I will probably pick it up once I know more about it, it looks really promising. Call of Pripyat is my most anticipated game of 2010 so far.

I think that it will be a toss up between the two. I've looked at both of these games, Metro 2033, and STALKER Call of Pripyat, they both look very good. I guess I would have to say that my first choice would be Metro2033. I would go ahead and get both once they come out.

As far as I think I know, Pripyat will indeed have a whole different story, in a whole different scenario: won't be (or "it is not", for the game is already launched) like Clear Sky, where we feel like they (the devs) have only put different scripts -- with voices accordingly -- on an already existing title (SoC) to make twice the money with the same game...

No Not entirely, My first impression was that it was a corridor shooter only, but bits and pieces of news mention (or claim) that there is a "fallout 3 like" open map on top of those metro stations, and you will spend a deal of time darting between them above ground.

The scope of above ground, and that you should spend more then alittle time up there was news to me, It is a bloody hard game to get info about.

I suppose that there will always be "preassure" up above, since your gasmask have limited air supply, but the time limet to be up there is not mentioned at all.

Would be cool (and make some sense) that they really were made like the FO3 game I suppose, I surgest we take those news with a grain of salt tho, Id hate to get my hopes up, and then see that above ground is just corridors with a different look -.-
