Will we ever get a good, single player campaign for a FPS?

Just played through MoH. I felt like I was playing CoD. And it was short. Like 10 hours short. I'm dissapointed. I couldn't really tell the difference between the too. At the end they tried to put some sort of story in there, but it felt hashed together.

Now I know that I'm supposed to be playing the multi-player. But I have a soft spot in my heart for a good story and the stormtrooper mentality of burning through bad guys and watching a story develop.

It seems these days are done :(

Play the older single player games.

Call of Duty 4? Crysis? Half-Life? Bioshock? Come on dude, there are a TON of examples for great FPS games with a single player focus. If we expand to shooters in general then you can add Max Payne 3, Spec Ops: The Line, the Uncharted and Gears of War series, and many, many other shooters with fantastic single player elements.

I mean, even the Bad Company games had some fun as hell campaigns.

I liked Bad Company 2's campaign. There was some great and amusing dialogue from the characters throughout.

stalker and unreal tournament 2004 were good in my modest opinion

I believe Dishonored would be good buy, Crysis 2 might not had been better then original game but it had a good distance campaign as well. Otherwise, Metro is coming out as well and its mainly focused on single player experience.

Other then that I do agree, I miss good days of Half-Life and other FPS games where you can spend good 15 hours enjoying and exploring the game.

So a 10 hour FPS campaign is short?

I think the main issue for FPS campaigns is that they are too easy on the normal/hard mode. Back in those days, normal mode for FPS games were pretty damn hard as it is, which meant more time spent on completing the level.

Try the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games, Metro 2033 or Borderlands games they put quite a bit of effort into their storys. Also in this day and age 10 hour campaigns arent anything to grumble at considering a lot of single player shooters nowadays dont even last half that time.

Hey at least the Warfighter campaign is better than BF3's campaign, as well as the 2010 MOH game haha. I actually really like it, as well as some of the recent CoD campaigns like the original BLOPS. DIfferent strokes different folks. Try Far Cry 3 when it comes out maybe?

So far I think Dishonored is trying to have something of a decent original story but I find myself skipping past almost all of the dialogue. I enjoyed the story in the Call of Juarez games even if they were second rate western/gunslinger stories at least the devs were trying something new. Let's be honest most FPS ever made have really generic cookie cutter stories, they're either some sort of generic military shooter or something scifi.

Serious Sam 3 and Hard Reset if you like your games light on story and heavy on shooting. As for an original story-heavy-FPS, they're non-existent at the moment until Bioshock Infinite's out.

Theres tons and tons of them, but wont find them in generic games like COD or MOH.

MoH lasted you 10 hours? I've played it for less than two hours and I'm easliy more than halfway through...

It's not a terrible game, average at best, pretty mediocre overall because of the bugs.

As for single player campaigns for FPSs, there are plenty of good ones. Crysis, STALKER, Metro, FEAR, just a few that instantly come to mind when I think of good single player.

Far Cry 3 looks like it'll have a good single player.

Also Metro Last Light, Crysis 3 and Bioshock Infinite are releasing next year.

Half life is great. You will have to be stupid not to like it.

Theres one game that you should play. Stalker CoP. Open world fps game with survival element and pretty good mysterious story. Try it with "complete mod".

STALKER is best FPS ever. and then we have Crysis which is also both graphics and gameplay king.

and if we count hybrid than there is Deus Ex HR and Dishonored are quality titles.. so theres still plenty of SP FPS. Id say there are better SP FPS than MP FPS since MP games are now casulaise and carter towards noobs. just play quality games. not those that mainstream media told what to play.
