Every iteration of Windows since XP has taken functionality away from the user. I think they are trying for a more user friendly Windows experience, which is exactly what I don't want. Pretty soon there will be "wizards" for everything and you won't be able to customize anything anymore. perfect example is the "personalize" option that replaced the "properties" option going from xp to vista, you have to wade through so much crap dedicated to aesthetics to even get to device manager. Everything useful is hidden away in ridiculous sub menus.

xbarmatic
Really? That's the perfect example? Let's see. Windows key + pause|break > device manager. You're just some dumbass that spreads dumbass things to your friends and then they buy a Mac. The world is getting more like this dumbass jacobhazard1704. I signed up just to post this.

Sorry but I have to agree here. Device manager on Win7 takes me exactly 2-3 clicks (less than 5 seconds).

You don't need a cycle to tell you that Windows 8 will be a trivial buy for desktop/laptop users.

From what I hear, it doesn't support flash at the moment. Possibly due to the main move towards HTML5. I'm planning to install this on an HP tablet at work and test it out. Seems like it could be a good idea for general tablets and tablet laptops but I don't really think it fits with regular pcs.

edit: well they are still working on flash support

It's pretty awesome that the desktop is sort of "just another app", but the GUI lacks a crapton of shortcuts, including every single important configuration option and the command line. Having spent limited time with it, the only way to the control panel I know of, is to right-click the desktop and backtrack through the basic graphics settings.

Performance looks good and I kinda like Windows 8, but user-friendly as it may be, it's extremely unintuitive and assbackwards for experienced users.

Author_Jerry

To quickly access the Control Panel, go back to Metro by hitting the Windows Key, type in Control (you may only need to type con), and hit Enter. (In fact, you can do that in Windows Vista and 7 as well.) Moreover, you can search Apps by hitting Windows Key + Q and search Settings by hitting Windows Key + W.

Don't forget the wonders of Windows Search in the Start Menu. ;) Hit Windows Key and type Device Manager (or maybe Device will do) and hit Enter. Windows Search can save a lot of time wading through menus. And if you want to save more time, pin the programs you use the most to the taskbar and hit Windows Key + 1-9.

Ahh yeah, wonder why I did'nt think of that....

I use the searchbar extensively in Mint 12 but rarely in Windows for some reason :?

Like a review said, I'm sure there will be a PROFESSIONAL version with Metro disabled by default. (Home Edition will have metro)

[QUOTE="jer_1"]Giving Micro$oft a back door into my computer where they can remove and edit programs or apps at their own will is a major NO NO to me. Screw windows 8, it's already completely worth ignoring. They can spy on you enough through windows 7, why give them even more options to track and modify your computer? Also, it looks like sh&t.

Since windows OS is a closed system you dont truly know what MS is doing anyway. Get your tin foil hats on!

I agree except on Windows 3.11, it was as useful as a bucket without a bottom. Also, I think the most stable Windows had to be 2000. I please XP and 7 the most.

I hate it so far. If anyone thought OSX was dumbed down too much, watch out for this one. I think OSX Snow Lepord and Windows Xp are the best OSs.

[QUOTE="FelipeInside"] Have Microsoft ever taken pre-orders? DanielDust

Nope :(, but I want to have it the first second it's available, I love everything I hear and see about it, performance and Metro too (especially Metro).

They took pre orders for Windows 7 if I remember correctly. If memory serves it was also quite a discount.

The old Windows is still in there...

I absolutely hate Metro, and I find it ironic that I'll have to spend several hours of in-depth investigation; in order to get the new, mainstream friendly Windowsproperly accessable, but it's all still there......

Metro i think will work great on tablets and touch monitors. But from what i used it just didn't feel very smooth with a mouse. Outside of that its windows 7 with faster boot times

I am guessing its a preference, performance, or security thing. Been thinking of putting my in-laws on Linux, but instead I made a "How the Internet Can Kill You" tutorial lesson. So far, so good. :)

I'm perfectly happy with my Windows 7/Ubuntu dual-boot, and will be for some time to come. Actually, I'm using Ubuntu more and more lately, and just dropping into Windows for gaming and some apps that won't run in Ubuntu.

I've not tried Windows 8 consumer preview, but I've watched the videos and read several articles about it, and they all convinced me that I don't need it.

With Windows 7, performance and security are really good, as long as you don't try stupid stuff on the internet.

I can't believe they added an app market:roll:

Franko_3

want you to sign into Windows with MSNLive account and warn you to turn off auto updates because you may incur unwanted charges on your account from these apps.

just a bunch of garbage. i'd buy a media tablet or phone if i wanted that crap.

OS works OK if all you do is browse the web and play games.
