NPD numbers listed this game selling even worse than crysis....this is proof that NPD doesnt work for PC games, in which the biggest market is Europe, and Digital distrobution is not included.

Thank god, this game really deserves it. I thought all the effort the devs put in wouldn't be repayed. DarkRecruit
Indeed. It's really sad to see how some great games don't sell and some bad games sell too well. Especially games like The Witcher, that shine the love they are done with, deserve to sell.
Yeah the article was posted 36 days ago. Two million copies probably have been sold worldwide already. Good chance, there will be a sequel to the witcher in a few years from now.Jd1680a
Lets hope. I also hope this sucess will give a boost to the number of pc game from the Euro/Russia zone.
I am curious how much that translates into raw profit for them in the end. Anyone know? God this is great news.Plague27
It would depend on the contract they have with Atari, either they get a set fee, say 10 million to develop the game, or perhaps a set fee and royalties.
But in general big PC games start making profits when you hit say 300-400 thousand units, so you are looking at at least 20 million profit, most would go to Atari.

I think it's much less than 300k or ton of game would never see the light, like adventure game who are not some super seller.
Lets say a game cost 50$us on shelve. 5$ will go to the retailer, 25$ to the publisher (to cover for the funding of the game+ the marketing/publishing fee), that mean if a compagny sell 100k of a game, they will make about 2 millions in profit, if the publisher did cover all the fee of the develloper. Even, if it's1 million of profit for a small studio is still a lot of money. That my guess about how the system work though.
[QUOTE="Roris0A"]Finally some postive news about a pc game. And really postive at that. A million copies? lol And it still has christmas to boost its sales even more. I'm for one getting it then.TeamR

A single game development costs would be at least $15-20 million, plus another million for marketing and packaging. A publisher would need to sell at least a million copies just to break even and start making a profit.
There is a good chance Atari have sold off around 2.5 million worldwide so far to retailers. Retailers would buy the boxes in the thousands and store them in warehouse.

Crytek and Epic make much more from lisencing their engines than they do from sales of those games. They both have companies lining otu the door to develp games with their engine, and each company is paying $1-300k per lisence.
so....those games might not have sold extremely well, but you gotta look at the big picture. Those are fancy advertisements over the face of their REAL products

yeah I know, I also believe Crytek is getting something out of promoting Dx10 and the new Line GPU's. :)
