Haha still not the funniest in game advertising the best advertising would either be the Metrix online i mean really they put real world ads on Billboards like watch the Discovery channel tonight and watch Futureweapons. Then SWAT 4 which had real posters of real movies with real Release dates and Battlefield 2142 because it had ads for pepsi even though it set 135 years in  the future.

Still yet to see an advertisment in BF2142, and I played MXO briefly, the ads in that game were generated based on your IP addess, so (being in Australia) I never saw or heard any. But someone I was talking to was telling me he heard an ad near 1 of the hardlines that he'd heard on the radio advertising Burger King or something.

Yes its only 1.6, source still is fine. I guess ads are the price you pay for super cheap game.

at least in here EA has the most expensive games, their prices never seem to go down, BF2142 is still over 40euros, with ads...

Nothing new really. Servers have had ads in CS for as long as I remember, especially British servers. Are you sure this isn't the same thing? Ads by servers and ads by developers have a big difference.

Just block all those ad servers in your hosts file and you'll never see one again.

not saying ads in games dont exist (trackmania, bf2142) but that could just as well be an intentional hoax to stir up crap.

Its pretty easy to add your own decals and alpha textures to a map, even make the ones with multiple ads on a rotating system.

In-game ads could be a good thing as they may make games cheaper. What would be really interesting would be if a developer made two versions of a game, one whith ads and one without. But the one with ads was about half the price or something. Which would you choose?

Wow, talk about an eyesore.  They didn't go out of their way to make them blend in with the environment, did they?  But then again, I suppose that would defeat the purpose of advertising. :P

where are they cheaper? i still don't see much of a difference in steam games you buy at the store or d/l. developers won't pass on the savings. they just profit more with ads and d/l games. greedy.

yeah, they're really out of place, but luckly they're not in every map and they're fairly easy to ignore.

(Buy Aspricream) They don't screw with (Welch's Grape Juice is delicious) the gameplay at all. There's nothing wrong with (AMD>Intel, buy today!) ingame ads just sitting everywhere. We should have games where (Discovery.com Best tv channel ever) the maps are built out of ads, why see any walls at all?

I think those are fake.

Why?  Theyre too obvious.  Valve respects their fans, and while I dont doubt that ads could be put into the games, I doubt they would be that upfront and obvious about it.

not only that, but I have yet to see any ads on any server I have played on.

from what i've seen, ads can account for a couple bucks of a game's price. usually $2 or so, maybe a bit more in special cases... but definitely nothing big enough to make us actually notice.
