wow is a really addictive game more than some drugs and can have very bad consequence on someones life. I stop playing because I had problem controlling my play time on this game, now I play game that requires less time too play and gaming has become really more enjoyable.

I played wow for about 6 months. I quit after I saw everything I wanted to see. I don't understand how people can be so obsessed with this game. Yeah, it's fun, but it's just a game.

I had nearlly the same experience. Played for around 9 months (about the time it took me to get to lvl 60). Did all the 5 man dungeons, ran ZG a couple of times as well as MC. At that point I realized I did not enjoy the 40 man raids and decided to stop playing. Yup...just like that. The game is really fun, but in the end I was not willing to invest 3-4 hours playing a game in one sitting. If they had more content that you could do in an hour burst, I prob would still play to this day. Anyways, I don't see what all this "addiction" fuss is all about. It's just a freaking game you spineless wimps.

Its funny, some people stop after only a couple hours and some can't stop. I personally love the game but I an honestly not addicted. I went cold turkey awhile back but only started again after BC came out.

I was addicted for a while... But once I got to 60 and started raiding, it got boring.  ZG and AQ are fun the first few times, but when you do it three times a week it gets old pretty fast.

Same here, my guild and me were doing almost every night runs of ZG/MC and 1 day I suddenly realized, what am I getting out of this. When I quickly figured out nothing, I stopped playing.

*raises hand* yet another among the WoW Junkies.

On a related note i read an article a couple months ago that says in some cases an actual physical addiction (not just the "mental" one) can happen.  It was something about the sense of accomplishment you get from beating a game, or at least a difficult part of one, causes the release of chemicals into your blood and nervous system.  and just like with any "drug" be it natural or man made the more you get the more your body wants/needs to get the same effect.  And again like all drugs you can go through physical withdraw from it.  Supposedly the effects are much stronger in MMO players than "normal" games simply because of the fact that MMO's dont end so they are a constant source.

Can't remember where i read the article but I will try to find it later... *flees back to WoW*

It would be safe to say that I was addicted to this game for about 5-6 months.  I don't think that is a bad thing; those were some great times.  But after awhile I realized I had seen everything the game had to offer, and the magic wore off.  I have absolutely no desire now to play WOW.  Like most games that you love, it is great for a while, then it is boring.  They just really nailed the 'great for a while' part with this one.  It's funny, because before WOW, people always used the word 'addictive' to describe a game that they think is great, and WOW comes along, being the most addictive game ever, and suddenly everyone is freaking out about it.  If you're an adult and you can't stop playing, thats your problem, get a life.  If you're a kid and can't stop playing, thats your parents problem, they should put a ball in your hand and shove you out the door!

I have seen tons of these threads, I had a total of 5 60's (2 of which had 5+ pieces of T3), and played with the same people every night for nearly 2 years, during the summer I stayed up until 10 in the morning and slept all day until about 5 PM. I knew I had to quit at some point, and I thought it was a good idea to stop when TBC came out, and I have never looked back on it. On the plus side, I did make a profit out of my account ^_^

I didn't get addicted. As I said in a different thread, I got to level 16 and got bored. Right now I'm playing Ragnarok. It's more fun, I'm not addicted to it...I'm not....I have a life. I work out(not leveling), I have friends(that aren't virtual).

meh, i dont really see the point. its an ok game but it seems really repetitive after awhile. i really dont see how it can be that addictive. personally, im tired of playing it and it seems less and less enjoyable. i might quit. its too bad i bought the expansion and i havent even installed it yet. there isnt much of a storyline, the action doesnt require much skill, the only incentive to keep playing is to get to the level cap, and then get better gear. i feel board while playing because im not being challanged. level grinding isnt enjoyable at all, its almost painfull. doing instances gets boring because you just do the same thing over and over again. i have been playing on and off for a long time and i cant decide if i want to quit or not.

WoW... I just don't see the attraction to farming for levels. Might as well be playing space invaders. I don't see the need to pay every month for a game thats the same all the time. I played it for about a week and wow, what a bore. LoTRO? Thats another question...

Realize that you're getting nothing out of the game, and then quitting should be easy.

The more of these types of threads that I read the more I come to the realization that very few people actually have any clue about what a real addiction involves. The whole WoW (MMORPG) addiction thing that seems to be very much in vogue lately is pretty ridiculous.  It's a game and possibly a habbit but it is NOT an addiction.

I personally feel bad for all of you people who don't have SELF CONTROL! I don't know, maybe some people don't know the meaning or have never heard the term but it means control or restraint of oneself or one's actions, feelings, etc. Now the only, I mean the only possible reason a person can get addicted to a game where you benefit nothing from it in the real life is that you have no social life and take part in no physical activities! And whoopee for all those people who say they work 40 hours a week and have like 5 level 70 's by now in the game (you have no life). It is so annoying see thousands of posts saying *Im Addicted to WoW*, seriously, that sounds so pathetic and if you actually had any pride in yourself, keep your addiction to yourself. Thats cool and all if you want to yell out and say "Oh yeah Im addicted as well" but think about what your saying. Your basically saying "Oh yeah I cant control my actions as well." WoW is definitely a great game and yes I do play but within reason. Actually Im starting to get bored of it and going back to some of the older games I used to play. But in the end its just a game. Im not trying to seriously hate on anyone that says they are addicted but think about what you are doing/saying and think about how you can fix it.

Nobody ever talks about the EQ2 addicts or City of Heroes, or (insert MMO name here) . WoW only gets so much grief and attention because it is extremely popular. But make no mistake, the EQ2 addicts are addicts all the same.

Hit the nail in the head, anyone can get addicted to any game.. I remember back in the EQ day a man starting thinking he was his character in EQ and his mum called the police and he ended up in the mental house for over a year. He eventually shot himself when freed..... and there have been many other cases with gaming addicts like the Korean man who died in a net cafe playing Starcraft.... so anyone can get addicted to any games.. and not just WoW..... In my opinion it comes down to the individual and not the game. Self control 4tw! stop blaming the games... When I know something is wrong than I stop right away.....

I quit 4 months ago and have no urge to go back, even with the expansion.  The game is too repetative, pointless, and non-skill oriented.

True Dat, I have 2 60's and a 63 in WoW and I would say that it's a very addicting game and it's starts getting really bad when you choose it over real life things, which I think happens do most people who is doing end game raiding and some who just start. (It happend to about 6 of my friend I know that play WoW)

Yep, I did play it a lot.. I still do miss playing it, but once I actually get to play it, I get bored. I played it at a friends house a while back at the release of Burning Crusade, and after 30 minutes with creating a new character and starting out, I was bored.. :(

IMO, the so-called "addiction" is really in the game. But it's the gamers choice to allow themselves to be hooked on to it. I really feel sorry for people who can't get off their butts and leave WOW for a moment. I love WOW but not to the point I let it live my life.

all addictions are mental if you ask me.  i use to smoke, for about 10 years.  i tried many times to quit, but failed.  once i started paying attention to things that triggered my need to have a cigarette it was much easier to quit.  if addiction was all chemical based, then why can't people that smoke just use the patch and quit just like that.  simple, it's not the same as smoking a cigarette.  i currently know personally 3 people that are addicted to WoW, after many times i've defended wow against this "it's not addictive crap" i now realize that people really do get addicted to it just like cigarettes or anything else that people get addicted to.  my girlfriend is addicted to it, she couldn't play for the past 3 days because we didn't have the money to pay the subscription and she literally started crying because of it, it's absolutely rediculous.  i watched it break up a friend of mines relationship because his girlfriend didn't wanna do anything anymore except play WoW til 3 in the morning every night.  so for those of you who say wow is not addictive, you are addicted and have blinders on.  if you really step back a minute and ask yourself how many times you've passed up doing something in real life in order to go do a raid or whatever else in wow, i think it will help open up your eyes.

It was easy for me to quit WOW but quitting booze and crack was a tad harder!
