Yep, its true. I am another one who gave their very self control away to WoW and unfortunately let it run my life.

But I have been happily sober for about 10 months. I can't believe the lock the game had on me. Waking up on a Saturday morning and staying in a 3 hour Alterac Valley (is that right?) battle because I didn't want a debuff. The game easily sucks you in. I was that the mall when day when i first was compelled to quit. I knew my time for WoW was running low and i would need to buy more, and I was going to. I had the box in hand and was eager to pop in the code and play. And I see the kid in front of me with a card box, a hat and a hoodie, and he gets charged something like $105!! It hit me there: I thought, 'What an idiot, he already pays $15 a month, why pay to give free advertising?' But, was I doing the same thing? I wasn't advertising for them, but 15 dollars a month?!?! Times a good SIX MILLION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No one needs that kind of cash. I put the box back and walked home. I played out my time and say bye to my 66 hunter who took 76 days from me along with other characters.

I think i was addicted for two reasons. I was never a hardcore raider, but i think it was the monthly fee that wanted me to get the most time on the game for my money and the fact that the universe of WoW kept moving while i wasn't on it.

I think you should play WoW until you're out or time, then just don't play. Wait until its free, its not worth the cash you pay. Just my thoughts.

I'm putting on the flame shield now, if your gonna say things like "Get some self control 10 year old" (I'm not ten) or "I can quit whenever i want, keep it to yourself." I am just sharing my opinion and trying to see if anyone agrees.

I've heard alot of reasons for people getting addicted and I have to say this is by far the lamest reason... Ive heard of divorces, losing family/friends and even going to VGA... but over advertising? You have got to be kidding me.

You've learned your lesson... until the next great online game comes out!

The only thing that kept me playing WOW, was the fact I had a RL friend playing it also, so I kinda felt like I had to log in often to play with them. But it is very fun playing with people you know, so I enjoyed it.

I often found myself getting drawn in to online games in the past. You you should ask yourself, if the monthly fee wasn't a problem would you do it? It begs a deeper question: What are we living for? In any case, gamingis an awesome way to relax and have some fun in an often stressful andrestless world, but keep it in moderation...

i started playing an hour every other day. then things progressed slower ingame, and it gradually became a 4 hour grind-a-thon then an instance for another 2 hours after dinner. I palyed Guild Wars for a while and dint have the problem.

I play WoW from time to time with buddies from work when there's nothing going on at night, or on the weekend when I don't feel like partying. I wouldn't say i'm addicted, and frankly $15 a month is peanuts in the grand scheme of things. I can easily drop over $100 in one night at the bar, so what's $15 a month to play a fun game with friends? Games like WoW will NEVER be free because of the upkeep it takes to maintain such a vast game world. With that all said and done, I really fail to see how people can become addicted to games like WoW. Don't get me wrong, I love gaming, it's what I do, it's my hobby. Some people collect stamps, I veg out on my computer. No big deal. But to actually be ADDICTED to gaming, that disturbs me greatly, that there are people out there who feel the NEED to play, or feel compelled to play. I hear all these stories about people who blow relationships, jobs, family, on online games, and just have to laugh. I once worked for an ISP back when I was in college, we had a woman call in one night in tears because her internet connection was down and she had a raid to do in EVE:Online. Society makes me ill sometimes...well no, most of the time, in fact 99% of the time. Anyone that becomes addicted (and I mean LITERALLY addicted, I don't think you were/are xDJxGodX) to a video game, earns the same scorn from me as those addicted to drugs. Welcome to loserville, you're the flotsam of society, no I don't want to you squeegee my windows, get off my car. But that's just my 14 1/2 cents on the issue.

Saving 15 dollars every month hasn't exactly made me rich. I'd rather use it on a game that makes me happy ... and rightfully so! Blizzard completely revolutionized the gaming industry, as well as the online industry. Completely changed the way MMORPGs were made and they should be properly respected for that much. So anyone saying, "I hate WoW" or "WoW sucks" is clearly not a gamer and is obviously an idiot who speaks without logic.

I got what I paid for, and I only played it for maybe 10 hours a week most of the time. Its cool, you got your reasons, I got mine. Im just happy youre not one of these p***ies who lost control of real life.

And as for the whole divorce thing, I think any relationship where the non-addicted partner gives up on someone because of a game is doomed to fail anyway. There may be love there, but there sure isnt any effort. If my college roommates girlfriend got him to quit doing cocaine, I think someone's wife could ge ttheir husband to stop playing WoW.

To be fair, I tried WoW for two months and just couldn't get into it. I only have one other friend who plays it, however.

I stopped playing a while ago...I still want these 2500 hours of my life back, couldn't believe how big the number was the first time I added my play time. I absolutely have no intention of getting back into WoW thats for sure.

Play on a private server, problem solved. Play when you want and don't worry about the fees. You can also advance alot faster see all the content the game has to offer. I gaurantee you'll be through with the game once you see all the content that Blizzard is keeping from its customers with that messed up leveling system. 76 days just to get to level 66? That's crazy.
