I recently had a power cut while i was using the pc, and when i go to power it up it says the following message in red text

"warning!!! the previous performance of overclocking is failed, and the system is restored to its default setting, press any key except delete to enter setup"

I haven't overclocked this pc and when i get to the bios everything is tickety boo, I change nothing and exit out of the bios and my system boots up as normal.

Does anyone have any idea what has happened and if my machine is in serious peril?

Probably not. Something might have just gotten screwed up when you had the power cut. If everything is running fine now there's probably nothing to worry about. I had a similar problem once with a PC and it turned out that it was just a failsafe message and it had changed the settings back to default just to be on the safe side.

Don't worry, when you get that message it just sets your bios settings back to default and boots. Nothing to worry about :)
