Worth it to get Core 2 Duo E6850?

Current specs in sig(i dont OC)

I plan tp upgrade my Core 2 Duo E4400 to somthing better sometime later on. I only game and go on the Internet on my PC. Alot of people say not to go Quad for gaming, but wouln't it be more future proof?. Plus on Newegg the E6850 is $199.99 and the Q6600 is $189.99 so it makes it harder to pick(remember i dont OC)

Also, i plan to upgrade my CPU without reinstalling my OS(should be fine)

Also, should i take my mobo out of the case to install it? I dont have all the standoffs on my mobo so it would probably ben to much, so if i do take it out i will probably put it on a cardboard box or somthing.

Also FYI my 680i SLi board doesn't support the 45nm CPUs so don't reccomend any of those please.

Get the Q9300, its only about $50 more then the price range your in and is the future with 45nm, its fast and quad core gaming is coming.Predator123

i got the E6850 over the Q6600 because i didnt plan on overclocking. at stock speed the E6850 will outperform the Q6600M_U_C_K

Thats true, but what about the Q6700? Its faster then the Q6600 but still slower then the E6850. But then agian it has 4 cores.

Quad Core is worthless right now. For example, there will be insignifant/no benefits to a Quad-Core that has the same clock speed as a Duo Core.

So would a E6850 at 3.0Ghz be better then a Q6700 at 2.66Ghz?(cause i dont OC). i would get a Core 2 Extreme(they have both speed and 4 cores) but they are still way to expensive.

You hit the nail on the head there, my friend. Most QCs don't go over 3GHz anyway. And as you said, only the QC-E have those kind of speeds, but are vastly overpriced.

You hit the nail on the head there, my friend. Most QCs don't go over 3GHz anyway. And as you said, only the QC-E have those kind of speeds, but are vastly overpriced.

dont count out quad core ;) it has other advantages, if your just looking for gains in gaming stick with a dual core. if you don't want to OC get the highest clocked dual core you can. BTW intel's new quads are on there way, so expect the current Q series to drop in price soon.Predator123

Ya, i would get the Quad Core because sooner or later games will use muliple cores. But since i dont OC i dont know if its worth it or not. I could get a Quad core but i dont know how good the performace will increase at stock clocks.

if you dont have a 45nm board dont bother with quad core, a 65nm quad like the Q6600 is just not any faster on an un-optomized piece of software. If you want a quad get one that is 45nm. PLus if its for gaming dont bother dude, These days the cpu plays a much smaller role in gaming.Predator123

So do you think i should keep my current CPU( i dont OC)and get a 8800 GT? But should i upgrade my CPU to a Quad or somthing later?
