I love companies that still believe that PC is the evolution of gaming.

D9-THC

That's one major reason why PC gaming will NEVER die.

It's the only real gaming system that allows low budget developers to make a name for themselves through original and creative games. Low-budget games DO NOT show up on consoles.

Well...there was Shaq-Fu.......

The only reason we say PC gaming is dying is because most Devs are more focused on working on consoles because it's a bigger market atm.. so basically if you can throw out a bunch of games that all the noobs will like to play then you make more money than actually having to work to make decent quality unbuggy games for PC :P

The question is not a very good question. It should be is WOW killing PC gaming. The awnser would be maybe a bit. World of Warcraft is probly the worst thing to ever happen to pc gaming.

MMorpgs are a drain on pc gaming. Think about in the past great games like fallout or halflife. They suck people in and take a month or two to finish. THen maybe CS draws people infor a longer period of time, but for the most part people still bought new pc games.

Wow is drawing people away from other pc gaming. People who play Wow often play nothing else theirfore buy nothing else. Which is undeniable hurting pc gaming. I would not saying killing it perse but hurting it.

I think a more interesting question would be, "What would PC gaming be like without the MMORPG genre?"

OMG u could see same question when PS2 came out, noobs were telling that PC is bad/dead,that PS2 rules,WHERE IS YOUR PS2 NOW?Its sitting DEAD in your room and you are playing it because u dont have anything else to play on,BUT IT SUCKS,ITS OUTDATED,you are probably playing over and over same games, but guess what? MY PC IS ALIVE!

Same will happen with PS3 if before that end of world dont happen, but there will be PS4 or smthing AND NOOBS WILL AGAIN be talking about end of pc gaming,BUT THEY DONT REALISE THAT PC IS BEST,GAMES FOR YOUR STUPID CONSOLE ARE MADE ON PC!

SO PPL WHO MADE GAMES ACTUALY PLAY IT A BIT ON PC TO SEE IF EVERYTHING WORKS FINE.SO NO PC GAMING WILL NOT DIE.

AND BTW. WOW?

U THINK PC WOULD BE DEAD WITHOUT WOW? LOL GROW UP.Blizzard made LOT of great games, and every one of them is ACTUALLY PLAYED TODAY.

PC WAS GREAT before wow and will be great after wow becomes less played, but it will still be played.Next generations will come and see how WOW is great, how older blizzard games are GREAT.And they will play it.

No, PC gaming is not dying. However, I would say WoW does do a lot for it. 9 million PC gamers? That's gotta help the platform, even if they aren't overclockers with 8800GTX cards. The fact that there are so many overclockers with mega-cards is a good indication that WoW is not driving PC gaming. Otherwise, no one would buy a system with more than a $50 card. Is PC gaming the most expensive way to game? Yes. That probably is what sparks this whole "is PC gaming dying" thing to me, not what type of game is being produced most. Think of how RTS-happy PC gaming has been at times, or even FPS-happy. Same is going for MMO now. It's just a good genre for the platform. The main thing that hurts PC gaming is the numerous Xbox360 games that make their way to PC with sloppy porting and HUGE system reqs. Now, PC gamers look like they are paying a couple grand to play the same games console gamers pay a few hundred bucks for. (Plus they get WoW, hence the topic of this thread.) So, I understand the logic, and I agree to a point. It's just that people (including myself recently) still seem willing to pay big bucks to upgrade just to stay on the cutting edge of the PC market. Don't know why there's people like us, but we are not dying out. BTW: New rig set up last night with dual-core Pentium, 8600 GT, 3G DDR2, Vista. Still thinking about that 8800GTS and a new PSU.

WoW sucks. Seriously.

As for consoles becoming better than the PC, every single time a new generation console is released, it gets more expensive. It will only be a matter of time until console prices are as high as the PC themselves, and then the PC will also be viewed as a viable gaming system, and is also capable of work, internet, and mods for PC games, which consoles cannot do.

Well i play every damn game thatcome PC,and i upgraded for hmm...mybe 450$

And not that i play it-i play it on maximum settings except resolution, but anyway i dont give a sh1t bout resolution as long as i can turn everything on including high quality AA and AF.

Its still less expencive than console, and i play at bether settings than console users. As i allways said u dont need 8800 card to play game at max.Its waste of money.

PC Gaming dead??? No way...just understand what you're comparing.

Console platforms are what $600? Hell it cost me that much for my graphics card! I look at it like performance cars, you're trying to compare a Porsche Cerrera GT with an STi...yeah they're both great cars, but one clearly outperforms the other. PC's are expensive and they're for a more, technology savy crowd. Consoles are for the people who have problems figuring out how to use the remote for their TV...it's basically true. PC's are also tunable, overclockable, etc....yeah I'm sure there are guys out their hardwiring their consoles and trying to squeeze more juice out of them, but it what's the point? It's not like they've got graphics settings...lmao

WOW Is a great game, I like it, also played DaoC, and a couple other MMO's. But I think the PC shines with some older titles even...like the Diablo series, how about the old command & conquer series, X-COM is still one of my favorites, BioShock now, Quake Wars is coming, Unreal Tourny series, PC's are such incredible gaming machines because of the mod capability, I doubt PC gaming will ever die.

Just understand that the reason why you see so many console games is because...well...people are getting DUMBER! Consoles will always be "dumbed down" gaming platforms that market to the lowest common denominator just because your average street punk wouldn't even be able to turn the damn thing on if it didn't have instructions on how to plug it into the electrical outlet!

Just my two pennies...besides there's only one game that has ever been on consoles that I wanted on PC, and they made it for PC for a very short time...FFVII.

PC's FTW

U were addicted? Name one console game that has ever had the fan base or following that WOW has had? There will be another global dominator like wow on the PC after it's long gone. PC games will pick up within the next few years since Blizzard has raised the benchmark...

i believe no one would care if WoW had never existed. all that would have happened was a few less people would be around. and that the PC market would continue to live off of fps like CS, halo, half-life and fear. and that the only real significant loss would be that we dont have a growing market for gold sellers (which for some honest people is actually a good thing). Furthermore i also feel that i agree with people who say that the more important question would have to be: would the pc market be better off if WoW had never been released. the answer i believe is a yes.

*SIGH* Are we gonna go through this again? This is like the zillionth topic about this "PC gaming isdying" thing that consolekids have so muchinterest in.

Short answer: No, it's not dying. It's thriving and improving asusual.

Long answer: No, in fact, your topic pretty much shouts out the narrowness of your knowledge regarding PC gaming in general.W.O.W. and PC gaming is notthe same,it never was and never will be.Consoles are NOT competition for PCs, so why would you evencare? Obviously, you don't even play PC games, so again, whymust you ask?

I don't play consoles, I don't care about consoles and consolegames, but I don'tgo to console forums and post topics like "Is Sony dying because Xbox 360 and Wii is outselling the PS3?".

Your argument that console games are outselling PC games is pointless because the two aren't interconnected. A sell for an Xbox 360 game for exampleis NOT a loss for the PC market, and vice versa. Plus, the type of games between the two gaming systems are quite different... with consoles catering to fast, action-packed gameswhile strategy games almost exclusivelyPC only. There are a lot of of cross-over titles in between too. Consoles are not competition for PCs. You buy consoles to play, period. You buy a PC to play, work, do research, edit pictures, arrange music, compose stuff, communicate with others, download/upload files, etc....

Understand, you'll never in your lifetime actually NEED a console, but in today's world, a PC is almost a necessity if you want to be competitive in the workplace. For as long asthere are PCs, there will be games for PCs, online or not.

Anak_ng_Bayan

Wow spoken like a true nerd. You know I think there is a Star Wars Marathon on tv tonight, you should go watch it.

When at all did this become a need and dont need bases against consoles? Your last paragraph is stating that a pc is a necessity, which it is, but a regualr PC is not a gaming PC. So again your making an argument that is saying consoles are for game only, yeah they are. Congratulations on figuring that out, now come back from 1977 and realize consoles now just arent much different then a PC.

And to whoever wants to flame me, I play both, Console and PC games. On console right now, I just beat Bioshock and am waiting on Eternal Sonata. For pc im playing Guild Wars and Worms Armagheddon, go figure.

No not at all, if anything it just gave pc gaming a bad name in my opinion, most people these days think if you play pc games, you're a hardcore W.o.W fanboy with no life, and see consol gamers as the casual gamer. Which I think isn't fair, but that's just how people are. So I think if Blizzard had just kept the Warcraft name to RTS games, I think the whole world of gaming would of been better off.

i don't think so either, but WoW is a good addition to pc gaming despite the limitations it creates in the pc gaming industry imo. I've played WoW but didn't get addicted: I play mostly single player rpgs so I think pc gaming would be about the same w/out WoW.

For the price of a PS3 or Xbox 360, a "family computer" can become a gaming computer. Smart people realize this, dumb people buy Xboxs.

You missed the point completely. I was talking about the intrinsic availability ofa market for PC gamingthus ensuring developers that there will ALWAYS be a market. Sure, some developerswill leave, but that'll only give more room for others to fill the void. The marketmay not beas big as the consoles... but it is there, and the opportunity for profit will always be there. I wasn't arguing about needing a PC VS. not needing a console, nor was I arguing which is better. I was explaining to the original poster why PC gaming will not die.

Your statement "realize consoles now just arent much different then a PC.", is wrong for a multitude of reasons.

There's no need to flame you because you pretty much did agreat jobof flaming yourself. Next time, understand whatyou're replying to first and try todo betterthan throwing insults and calling people names, that'll make your arguments at least seem like they've been given some thought.

WOW isn't the definitive PC game. It's just a really successful one. Gaming sure can take its own course without it, but hell, why bother thinking down that route?

The one major thing i will give wow credit for it that you came play it on max settings with a 500ish computer, whereas crysis you need a 1200ish rig, sure crysis is gonna kick major ass but i think they need to put out more games that arnt hardware eaters.

Don't even reply to this thread seeing as how the original poster is all over the 360's nano sizednuts(or lack of)he should be posting threads in the xbox forums. To answer the question I've never played a mmo don't see the appeal course if I do try them out I might like them(I just don't want to pay monthly fees to play if anything i'd play guild wars), but 9 mil. subscibers thats almost more people playing wow on the pc than people owning the 360.

Definitely NO! I play exclusively PC games but I ve never played WOW. Not because i think its a bad game but I just never got around to it ( also i m not into mmorpg games)There are many other great games on the PC besides WOWalthough i do believe PC gaming is going through a slump right now. However you can always go back and play thousands of greatolder PC games which you cannot do on any of the consoles ( I dont erven think there is even 1000 games available to play on both xbox consoles together).

PC gaming is alive and well and living in my house!

I never played WoW, dont want to and, most likely, never will :P there is a lot more to do on the PC with games..modding etc. I think PC gaming is the last thing to die..although who knows.
