If you can't maintain a very good to high end machine....you can still play games that are a couple of years old.... but still doesn't excuse pirating that game.

There is absolutely NO excuse to pirate a game. NONE. If you don't know whether or not you can run it, the right thing to do would be to control your addiction to video games and spend the $50 (a good chunk of money) elsewhere. Honestly, it really isn't that hard to skip a must have. "Must-haves" come out like 7 at a time during the holidays. Most of them are just overblown blockbusters that aren't worth a dime.

actually, some people do. i have a friend who pirates games in this manner. after pirating CoD:WaW, he plans to buy the full game when he gets his next paycheck. that said, i would bet that most dont do this. i dont pirate games, but if i did, i wouldnt bother paying for them later

I don't pirate games either, but I'm with you too. I would not spend a cent to play a game that I can play for free, but I'm all about supporting good developers, so I always buy the games.

No, I don't think more demos would make a difference. People steal because they don't want to pay the money. If they really wanted to make a statement against DRM or high priced betas being released, they would have boycotted the game altogether.

READ People...READ first before replying.

I said it DOESN'T....DOESN't excuse anyone pirating that game.

The problem is the by creating a demo Hackers can crack the exe and use it to create no-cd patches/images. So publishers don't want developers doing this. Although I think it would help restore some customers confidence in developers/publishers it has proven to be a back door for pirates.

One way or another the game will always get cracked, so this is pretty much a non-issue.

Sure it would. I heard Crysis was pirated a lot to see how it ran on their computer.. Then again, there was a demo released. =p

It would probably decrease piracy a little but it would at least increase sales. I can't even name all the games that I've thought where interesting but decided not to buy since it didn't have a demo.

I think it would marginally help, but not much. I think a very small percentage of pirates steal games because they are unsure of the quality of the product.

No. Piracy was an issue back in the day when most devs/publishers were releasing demos.

[QUOTE="sSubZerOo"][QUOTE="vj02"]I don't think quality demos or more no. of demos can decrease the piracy rate! it will still be the same. But there should be a BAN on torrent sites and P2P clients! this will definitely decrease piracy rate!vj02
... That is impossible, and there are alot of great things you can get (thats legal) through torrent sites..

ok! just list those "legal things"

Well I would never have been able to get Freespace 2 back, a game that I can legally download.. Nor could have I ever gotten most of the best mods for it.. Seeing as the torrents seem to be the best parts of it.. Than there are scans of outdated books that don't sell any more because its gone under and such other things.. Torrents are useful for things that are incrediably hard to find because the company or the product don't really exist any more.. Or if the product does exist its only being sold second hand unofficially by people and not the company who are selling and ridiculously high rates of cash.. Also understand that you can download games legally from there if you have already bought the rights to it.. For instance I don't know how but my beloved Dungeon Keeper 2 game was infact destroyed some how by a substance on it.. So instead of trying to look for a replacement I was able to redownload it, burn it to a cd and use the cd-key I legally purchased to begin with.. There are also a ton of freeware stuff that I get from those sites as well..
