The score is way too low. If Blizzard wouldn't have updated all those zones for free and would've included that in the expansion pack, I take it Cataclysm would have been rated higher. It's rather silly, really. I can understand it if a reviewer takes into account the price per value ratio of an expansion pack and I WAS disappointed that there was only 1 new starter's area for each new race. Still, I can't shake the feeling that Cataclysm, just like a lesser known game, League of Legends, has been cheated out of a possibly better score because it decided to offer something for free.

To be fair, I haven't read the review yet, so I might be wrong.

It's exactly as you said, but I can understand GS reasoning behind it. You did not need to buy the expansion to get it, so they only rated what you needed the expansion pack for.

I'm a huge WoW fan I love it to death. But the score is about right. For what you actually pay for with the Cataclysm expansion you don't get much. It's level 80 to 85 content that will take about 4 days to level up and 2 new races. But they give everyone brand new level 1 to 60 content for free. I am not complaining about this, I think it is pretty cool that Blizz takes a years work and gives it practically for free. So the score is justified IMO.

Loving it, WoW was never as good as this, and I take this "free shattering patch" as actual Cataclysm content so that + Cataclysm high level content for me values 95, but anyway, what WoW fan really cares about a review? it would matter for sp games or other genres, but well established MMOs and reviews don't mix, everyone that cares, is playing.

I expected it to get 9.0. I agree that Cataclysm kind of started before the expansion pack actually went on sale, but technically the prior patch is part of the expansion since there was no other way to do it. If this is the case, the original WoW without expansions would need to be re-reviewed. They actually made an effort this time with adding more cinematic elements to the game, more voice acting, harder dungeons and updated the graphics beyond just the water, along with all the content. For these reasons I think a 9 would better suit the amount that is actually in the expansion. I agree with his points on archeology. He didn't comment on the nature of the quests though, or any raids, or any rated battlegrounds or wargames.

Dungeons were probably hard enough for them, doubt they even went in heroics, no matter how good your gear will be, unlike what they said, you will never have an extremely easy time in any heroics. Raids are beyond that, so I doubt they really got into raids, this review was done pretty fast and they aren't playing just WoW so I doubt they got to the point when somebody would actually take them into a raid. This review is all about the "free patch", a little bit of archeology testing + google to find out about what you can actually get with it, leveling ( I doubt it was more than just 80-85), some normal dungeons and a few PvP experiences, in conclusion, I wouldn't even call this a review, this is just a preview.

At least deserved a 9.0 for sure. The new quest-lines and "bread crumb" style of questing is A LOT better than it was in BC. Plus the areas are more beautiful than before! And like Unreal said, the cinematics make this expansion. I cannot wait until I get to go to Uldum and meet Harrison Jones! :D

This. You get most of the new content without needing the expansion.

It'll be great :P Uldum is by far the best experience in WoW, great story, great cinematics, great events and also, another fun guy, that was part of the worst WotLK dungeon ever, will also appear towards the end.

I regret buying the expansion, especially since i had to buy Wrath at full price... I missed the deal from before. The new races aren't that great and their starting areas have quests that try to be different, but they just end up being poorly implemented diversions. I've been playing a night elf Druid and have been experiencing some of the new low level content that way. They did a really good job reshaping the zones and quests... places that you've already visited before are much improved and quite fresh.

I'm pretty much waiting to play Cata, I'm in no rush, but for those who keep complaining that you don't get a lot of stuff... I mean really? The whole world changed, new talents, new quests.. that was all part of Cata. Sure they released those changes before the expansion itself but it's still part of Cata. Also not to mention... CATACLYSM ISN'T COMPLETE YET! The expansion just started, there are still tons of content for it that's going to come out.
