It has nothing to do with Steam, prices are all set by the publishers....
MJPK
No there not.All the other DD sites have the correct currenty rates.
The answer I've heard is that STEAM is setup differently then other providers(such as D2D), giving the publishers complete control of pricing.Considering that Europe is a hotbed for PC gaming, they really need to get a seperate but equal Euro Store Page, and soon. I wouldn't be surprised if it was in the works right now, who knows. Getting inside info from Valve and company just isn't easy.
I am on the lookout for another service to try, I still use Steam for some games but on my machine I still have had problems with it in the past, lot of the times the actual Steam, service causes crashes and the games to hang up on start up, but I cba to install Steam again to fix it, not to mention the inflated prices for the UK.

A troll is a troll, if you dont have anything constructive to say dont say anything. : /
As for OP, there may be some taxes or other things at play that steam may not be able to help. Resulting in a higher price.
A lot of games on Steam can be bought cheaper elsewhere and then registered on Steam anyway. E.g. DOW2 is selling for around £15 new whereas it's £34.99 from Steam. You could buy it cheaper and then register the cd key on your Steam account.

That's what I'm doing.I got E:TW(€38 - Steam €50),UT3(€9 - Steam €12), The Orange Box(€14 - Steam €30), CS:S(€12 DoD:S and HL: D included - Steam €20), Day of Defeat: Source, Half Life 2 Deathmatch and The Last Remnant(€12 - Steam €40) all for cheaper and put them on Steam.
Dunno.... I was getting tales of monkey island form steam today, but then I checled telltales' site and guess what? 33 euros on steam and 34.5 dollars (25 euros) form Telltales... don't need to tell you where I got it (I'm from italy, and the one from steam si english only, so no difference at all)It has nothing to do with Steam, prices are all set by the publishers....

Valve has said more than enough times that the prices they put up are the publishers numbers. Don't go around blaming Valve because the publisher of the game you want is ripping your territory off. You go to them and complain. If the publishers want to use 1/1 then they will. Valve has no say in the price of other peoples games.

If thats true why does Valve follow the same €1=$1?
yeah that sucks for Europe, I don't know why they shouldn't fix that, there is a huge pc gaming market in Europe and a lot of broadband connections

How would I know? I'd guess that since PC gaming in Europe is significantly more popular than it is in the states that they may be charging more for them? People are obviously still buying or they would have changed it back. It sucks for sure but you know what you have to do.

I kinda hafta agree. If you guys (as in, not you personally, but a majority of Europeans) are buying it, then VALVe/publishers see no point in cheating themselves out of a little extra cash. Capitalism is a great system, vote with your money and don't buy games off of Steam.TC just loves to spam this all over gamespot. Really get over it. Whining about it here isn't going to solve anything.
Well the European Commission has been questioning Valves strange price scheme since around october 08 , so i'd expect Valve to change the price scheme due to pressure from EU by perhaps even threatening to block Steam purchases in EU .
