Is it just me, or does L4D seem more like an old arcade game than a legitimate, good fps?

I was expecting better from the makers of HL2...

L4D is a rather ingeniously designed coop game. It forces your team to work together or else you don't last long, or unless you play on easier difficulties. If you're just running around shooting everything without any regard for your team, then you're not getting the point, and you're cheating yourself out of a good game. I especially like the dynamic gameplay. I have been through the campaign several times now, and I'm amazed by how each time seemed like a different game. That said, it's not perfect. People still do alot of friendly firing, although unintentionally. I noticed that usually the highest kill scorer also typically has the highest number of friendly fires. Sometimes the hordes are so massive and chaotic, it's impossible not to ever shoot your teammate when attempting to save them from the zombies.

Firstly, I don't even think Valve made it - didn't they just buy it and polish it up?

Secondlly, I've only put ~35 hours into it so far, but I don't really have any complaints. It does everything that it was supposed to do, and it does it extremely well.

I agree as well. Don't want to put down anybody elses opinion, but I tried to play this and couldn't get into it. After a couple hours I quit playing for good.

I don't have much time, but the one time I did play through a chapter, I loved it. It definately needs more of your time at one sitting than most MP FPS where you can leave at any time (well you can leave L4D if you're a jerk :) )

so, its just you.

Plus i love in versus when some noob on the other team decides hes playing counter strike and runs off on his own and im a hunter:twisted:

Old school shoot 'em up action done right for once + intelligent cooperative mechanics + awesome weapons + zombies. What's not to love?

The game needs more levels (these are coming, from Valve and from the community) and ideally more weapons, but more weapons aren't really necessary.

It's really an online only game (despite its bots) so if you aren't into those games (I'm not) its not that great. I think its a very cool game but not GOTY without any sort of decent story.

Good online game not worth 50 dollars to ME. Would be worth 50 to people who love online games

Got my copy for $40 at my Gamestop. While it's really simple (Point, Shoot, Stick together), I don't think I've had as much fun with an online game in ages. The four player Co-op is so much fun, even more so when you're playing with friends. If I ever get bored or tired of that, I just move on to the VS. mode for a few rounds. Hunters are fun! :P

Also like others have stated, each time I've played through a campaign or even just a level or two, while similar, it's never the same.

Wether it's a good game or not, I think left 4 dead is going to set a great precedent for co-op games in the future, usually co-op is added as an addition to a games content, it's not often when they're made from the ground up to cadre to that entire concept. What do you guys think we'll be seeing next? I think an 8 player co-op starship troopers game would be great (more based on the novels then the movies of course, poweered armor ftw!). Arachnids would make a great opponent.

Jesus guys what he is saying is right, left for dead isnt a fps with amazing graphics and psychics ir multiple options and non linearity.. basically and arcade as he said it doesnt have anything extraordinary in technological part, so its pretty overrated... but we all agree that the point is not to excel in technological and graphical criteria but just to be fun, right? So if anyone starts again sof 3 or blacksite or Legendary are garbage because they are dont have as high technological aspects....because thats a lie and you know it.. or call far cry 2 psychics bad when only crysis got better... so its not the technology or graphics that make a game great... thats what he meant...why all that rating when they only rate the graphics and technology in games!

I don't understand this, the game has far more replayability, and gives you play times far exceeding the average shooter.. Some people put more time in the DEMO alone then some of the new shooters out there like the Farcry 2.. Take Farcry 2 for instance, just about every one says there is no replayability to it form what I have seen.. And it lasts at best 20 hours.. Some people spent more time in the demo then Farcry 2 for crying otu loud! Furthermore Valve has shown that it will only add more things.. TF2 is proof of this, so far it has added more then ever is usually expected form patchs with shooters, and it is only going to add more.. And they have said that they will support this game more then they did with TF2! Furthermore Versus mode is where the real game is at with a fun competition.

And yes pure genious, a 4 hour singleplayer game instead of a fully co-op game iwth tons of replayability..

I understand what your saying. But Far Cry 2 is by and large a poor game. The problem with LD4 is lack of content and lack of story. And lack of a new game engine. For a brand new full product there really should be at least a 10 hour single player campaign, that's standard. And there has to be a friggin story. These are not the 1980s where developers can push games out of the door that contain no story. A shooter without a story is a arcade game, pure and simple. And arcade games dont sell for 50/60$.

Imo this game is not that different from lets say Counterstrike-source, which is a mod. And also has no story, little to no worth in singleplayer. but has loads of replay ability online.. The difference is though CS:S doesn't cost the same price as a full game, unlike L4D.

Well I've never bought Battlefield games (probably for the same reason). But from what I do know about Battlefield, it's a much more content packs expereince than LFD. You have big open maps, vehicles, planes, classes and mission based objectives.. and all that other stuff. It's not simply a 4 level map game with 5/6 weapons with one objective through the whole course of the game.

2 hours long? Don't run your mouth until you play the game. C'mon. It makes sense that people who dislike it either never played it, or aren't playing it the way it was meant to be played.

Last time I checked, it had 20 levels. Battlefield games didn't have mission-based objectives. You're forgetting that boss zombies are also playable - so it's not just "5/6" weapons.

[QUOTE="IMaBIOHAZARD"][QUOTE="FelipeInside"] graphics ans sound are far from a 9 also how the hell did they manage to make it 2 hours long while its in development for 3 years... thats my rants expensive too for a multiplayer only game.. or 2 hours campaign!GodLovesDead

2 hours long? Don't run your mouth until you play the game. C'mon. It makes sense that people who dislike it either never played it, or aren't playing it the way it was meant to be played.

ShimmerMan

Last time I checked, it had 20 levels. Battlefield games didn't have mission-based objectives. You're forgetting that boss zombies are also playable - so it's not just "5/6" weapons.

Well you mean in a high difficulty with coop? I agree but should we play every game on the highest diffiulity Ohh and gears of war was a game that people played alone despite the the coop on the easiest difficulity.. still has more maps., i mean 3 years for such a few maps? How did that happen?

[QUOTE="sSubZerOo"][QUOTE="ShimmerMan"] I understand what your saying. Has no story, little to no worth in singleplayer. And also has loads of replay ability online.. The difference is though it doesn't cost the same price as a full game.Hellboard
......Battlefield series.... No story all multiplayer, $50.. Sorry try again. There have been products released before with out a story, that is not the main purpose of the game.

Ohh yeah? did battlefield series gave you so few maps? Where they in development for such a long time with such bad graphics?

Yes they did in fact far less large maps though.. The graphics look great, every reviewer thinks this.. I feel sorry for you if you demand top of the line graphics to enjoy a game, when some of the best games have far from the best graphics even the recent ones.

Hellboard, the focus was put on making fun and replayable maps. Quality over quantity. I've replayed No Mercy on Versus atleast 30+ times, and I'm still not bored. And in a few months, there'll be large amounts of community created maps.

Gears of War wasn't mainly a co-op game it was a added on function.. L4D is mainly a co-op game, and aside from a few scripted events its a completely random experience each time through with bad guys, pick ups etc etc.. Furthermore Versus mode makes it a far different game, with competition and a compeltely new play style.. The point being is people have played this game in a matter of days longer then the average life span of some of the shooters out there..

The graphics aren't bad at all. Are you crazy?

Are you crazy? its not a 9 like ign said or the sound a 9 or the psychics.. the tc means that compared to outher technological advanced games it doesnt look that good.. but i dont believe that graphics and psychics make a good game... i just wonder how this awesom game manage to be that short and lack on levels after 3 years in development?

The game is definitely "fun". But since when has quality been a exscuse for lacking quanity in the visual media world. Would a film which is hilariously funny, but only 30 min long ever be pushed out of the door and into the cinema or onto dvd at a full price tag? Sure the film might be so funny that you want to watch it 30 times, but a 30 min movie with a full dvd price tag is a rip off imo. Why would it be any different from video game media..
