Can anyone suggest any good aerial combat games for PC (XP)? I'm looking for WWII dogfighters and most I've found are Win95/98/ME.....

Also, does anyone know anything about X-Wing and Tie Fighter for XP? I love these games and I don't know if there was ever a patch, version, or re-release that covered XP. I don't want XWing vs Tie Fighter. Just plain XWing and plain Tie Fighter. I really miss playing those games alot and really want to get them running again. Tie Fighter was ESPECiALLY FUN!!!!

I'm also really itching to get into playing missions using XP with WWII aircraft (P51, P38, P40, Spitfire, etc....) Are there any out Ihere that don't have you flying "checkpoint to checkpoint" with maybe 1 encounter in the whole mission??? I want to try "real world" maneuvers like the "scissors maneuver" or the "high yo-yo" or the "skid-and-drop" that really made the actual combat difference in many occasions.

I'm not sure if I want to go all the way to MS Flight Sim games; too much mucking about "flying" not enough trigger time....

Can anyone help? I need a aerial combat fix and these games were a heck of alot of fun.

Peace Love and Bullets!

IL-2 and its expansions are comparatively new, as is one for recent fighters called Lock-on ("LOMAC"). For Running Tie Fighter, you'll need DOSbox.

Lock-On is modern/hypothetical jet combat.

For WWII, IL-2: 1946 is your best bet. Battle of Britain II: Wings of Victory is also very good and has the best support I've ever seen from a company. They're constantly coming out with huge updates and add-ons for free.

IL-2 features time compression and warping which allows you to get to the dogfights within minutes. BoBalso has a straetgic overlayer to it's game. Kind of like Rome: TW or Medieval TW. You plot and plan your attack or defence of the UK and when two or more flights meet up, you can just drop into the action and fly any plane you wish.

FOr X-Wing, get Alliance and then go here to get updated graphics and whatnot.

If you want to get a similar sci-fi space sim.. Check out Freespace 2.. The best space sim ever made.. Its free and legal download.. And the source community at www.hard-light.net has so heavily modded the game that it looks fanastic even by todays standards imo...

i was more of an Xwing vs Tie Fighter fan compared to Alliance...but Alliance is a definite go with the graphics mods and extra vehicle mods.

plus in XvT .. you couldnt do a barrell roll manouver with the joystick by twisting it... well not with my joystick anyway. i thought that was weird, made it so hard to dodge torpedoes. would work in Alliance though.
