I have no plans to overclock, so is the X2 6000 at 3.0 GHz good enough? Should I spend an extra $25 - $50 on an Intel equivalent? Going by specifications it seems like the X2 6000 is better than the E6750 and E6600, but I am a noob and don't know to much about processor performance. :P

Price is a factor, I also need a good dual core(quad core= $$$$ )processor that will last me a long time. Will be using for gaming mostly as well.

An Intel E6750 is better than an AMD 6000+.

I think the intel E6600chip (2.4GHz)is about equal to the AMD 6000+ (3.0GHz)

But the AMD 6000+ is still a fantastic processor (I own it), and it is cheaper than even the Intel E6600.

i would say go with the q6600 its pretty much the same or a bit more like 20$, then the e6750, the q6600 is a quad core clocked at 2.4ghz but overclocks great.
the intel chips are better then the AMD ones
heres a few bench marks games / apps

X2 6000 is probably best if you don't want to overclock... Really cheap. It depends on what you want though. the 6000+ will be a life saver if you already have a AMD mobo, but if you have an intel mobo go for the E6750. If your buying another mobo anyways, its your decision because the phenom (spelling?) is comming out soon and is supposed to trump most of the C2D, but then again it might not =/

E6750 is cheaper because it doesn't receive as much attention plus its FSB is higher which brings up compatibility issues with older motherboards (also much harder to overclock).

The E6750 is better than the higher clocked X2 6000+ because the Core architecture is more efficient than the A64's K8 architecture.

I'd go for the E6750, whether you overclock or not. It runs cooler and consumes less power than the X2 6000+, not to mention Core 2s are amazing overclockers.

The E6750 is a far superior overclocker to any of the Conroe Core 2 Duos, like the E6600.. the G0 stepping allows you to get it's FSB to 400-450MHz easily, even on stock cooling.

E6750 all the way.

E6750 cost 20 Euros (Probebly 20-40 $) more than a X2 6000+ but it's far Superior than X2 6000+ even @ stock speeds. (2.66GHz vs 3.00GHz)

CB4McGusto

Better architecture.

Because the E6600 didnt get a price drop from Intel on July 22.

The E6750 is better than the E6600.

What are you talking about? If anything the E6750 is EASY to overclock. Reaches 3.2-3.4 on stock cooling and voltage...

The FSB at stock is 333 mhz...which does require a newer motherboard, but it overclocks WAY better than any X2 processor.

Saying it is harder to overclock than an AMD 6000+ X2 is misleading a completely false. Period.

265$ of an E6750?

Copied and pasted from Newegg.com:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6750 - Retail
  • 64 bit Support: Yes
  • FSB: 1333MHz
  • Hyper-Threading Support: No
  • L1 Cache: 32KB+32KB
  • Model #: BX80557E6750
  • Item #: N82E16819115029
  • Return Policy: Processors (CPUs) Return Policy

  • *******Your Price:$194.99*********

In conclusion, 194.99 =/ 265. Therefore the difference is, like he said, around 80+ dollars.

I mean't much harder to overclock than other C2D processors with lower FSB speeds. I suggest the X2 6000+ because he doesn't want to overclock (Plus he could save a $ if he already had a AMD mobo, which is why I said for him to look at his mobo and choose between the two).

FSB at stock is 1333mhz. 1333/4=333mhzx8= 2.66Ghz.

You're still wrong. The newer 1333MHz Core 2s are better overclockers than the original Conroes due to the G0 stepping.

If they are better overclockers, that pretty much means they are easier to overclock.

With an E6750, one can hit like 3.6GHz on stock cooling.

With an E6600, one can hit maybe 3.2GHz on stock cooling.

Considering the E6600 is more expensive, and is slower at stock.. the E6750 is the clear choice.

Hyper-threading? What does that have to do with Core 2s? They don't even use HTT.

I won't try to change your mind, but Ill just let you know that you didn't change my opinion on the matter (I agree on preformance at stock).

The OP didn't want to overclock anyways so we got a bit off topic. The E6750 is good if he already has a Intel mobo or needs to upgrade his mobo. The x2 6000+ is good if he already has an AMD mobo.

AMD';s phenoms are coming out soon. If you look at the quad-core opteron 2350 benchmarks, the new tech is about as good as Intels, but with better performance per clock - On all of the tests, except for the Xeon optimized, the new 2.0GHz Opteron was as good as a 2.3GHz Xeon. You might want to wait till Christmas before you make your decision.

Note that those test were not on a new mobo for the Opteron, they were using the old, slow FSB mobos. The Phenom in an AM3 slot should beat Intel. I'm sorry I don't have a link

(The AMD chip quit just after the benchmarks were finished)

EDIT: here is the link:
