Xcom EU is a great game.
I got halfway through Enemy Within (expansion) before I decided I had to move on to other games (I only have so much game time), but I like most of the additions it brought to the game, although the pacing was changed a little too much in the other direction making some insane difficulty spikes in getting your base up to speed, always at the same exact time.
I am glad Xcom 2 is PC exclusive. I wanted more customization options, more tactical options during gameplay. Now I think that will be possible since it only has to cater to PC players which should allow far more of those things. I want more variety in maps, locals, weapons, and randomization. Too much was scripted, I feel, in Xcom:EU for the type of game it is.
I never got to play the originals, and I sure am not going back now with all the current games on my agenda. But I hope the new one also pleases fans of those games as well.
Is that a good thing though?
So far, I have seen nothing that would indicate that the game would take advantage of its PC exclusivity. But perhaps it is too early to tell thus far.
@Lach0121 I have heard that randomly generated maps are back, as they were in the originals. If this is true, we will have an infinite amount of variety of maps ;)
Procedurally generated maps you say? That could be pretty awesome!
I also want some more options in the stealth department, just to add to my post above. But all I have seen of it is the announcement trailer, I am rather attracted to the base in the side of the cliff as they have it, that is pretty cool.
Good guy Fraxis. Taking advantage of one platform to make best game possible instead of compromising their vision for lowest common denominator.
Is that a good thing though?
One word: Interface (UI)
The UI from what I saw looked very consoleish, barely changed from EU.
They claim that they are making the UI, and controls, much more for the mouse & keyboard this time. I hope that is true!

That remains to be seen. So far, what little I have seen of the UI could work well on a console too. I genuinely hope though they take advantage of the PC platform. Going PC exclusive without taking full advantage of it is a waste.

I completely agree. This is an opportunity not to be squandered.

Where have you seen the UI from XCOM 2?
I don't think they have released gameplay footage yet have they?

Yes, one image. Basically looked like XCOM EU, albeit with slightly more icons on the screen.
And it's really cool that they announced it is coming to linux even before it comes out, thats pretty sweet!
Added this one to my list.
Is anyone going to name all their characters after the ones from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air?
how long do you thing the pc exclusiveness will last?? 3 months? 6 months?? 1 year?? ... id lke to think this "exclusive Pc title" will last 3 months
Don't know, maybe 3 months, maybe forever.
It's nice to have a PC exclusive game for a change.

I have 7year old twin daughters, I can guarantee my troops will be named after My Little Pony characters :|
Though it may be entertaining (in a sick way) when Twilight Sparkle gets ripped apart by a berserker ;)
It will probably go console eventually. I like the idea of procedurally generated maps.

Actually chris said it will never go console this is a pc only project..Dought the consoles can handle the graphics any how unless you really dumb down the game..Besides like the pc itself it really is a niche kind of game..Its not for every one just like elite dangerous byshop my old friend..You know that as well as i do that not to many here play ed..Yet we enjoy it..Sadly its the case..

From the article in the link:
The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 should have the power to run the game, but developing for multiple platforms simultaneously just isn't something Firaxis can do. And even if it did come to those platforms, it would almost certainly be without support for mods, one of the games biggest selling points. "We're certainly not opposed to [a console release]," Solomon said, "but I can assure [you] that's something we're not even discussing yet."
It sounds like they just don't have the resources to cross platform develop. It's good that they know their limits, since we've all see games that suffered from being developed for more than one platform for launch.
Actually Elite Dangerous was in the same boat. They made it clear up front that PC is the only version they are working on and that if they were to add additional versions, that would happen -after- they finish the PC version and that's exactly what they did. Some time after they went live with the retail launch of ED, they started work on an Xbox One version as a separate project. If Xcom 2 gets a console release, based on this article it sounds like it will go the same way.
PS: How are you liking Powerplay?

Firaxis stated that XCOM didn't sell enough on consoles to justify the ports, and I doubt much has changed since then. Turn based strategy games are typically much more PC oriented genres than console oriented. Most turn based strategy games that I play are PC exclusive, such as Endless Legend, Fallen Enchantress, Civilization V, King's Bounty series, and so on. One problem is with the controller. Look at XCOM on consoles, aiming where you wanted your unit to move took about 10x as long as it did using a mouse on the PC. And that's just one thing. Everything took longer.
Also, XCOM had intolerable performance on the PS3. Absolutely horrendous performance, among the worst I've ever seen. Far, far past the point where I would stop playing the game on PC and chalk it up to inferior hardware and start thinking about upgrading my rig. Whether that's the fault of the PS3 or Firaxis is anyone's guess, but suffice to say, I would never play another Firaxis game on consoles (Bethesda is in the same boat for me).
who cares? might aswell be on consoles, since it's not real-time. you can take your time choosing where to move etc. it is nice, though, that the UI will be designed for PC specifically, and later translated/changed to consoles, wether it would ever happen.
oh, and the mod support, ofcourse... i never play mods anyway. they are VERY rarely high quality. but yeah, good mods could happen, so i guess it's nice...
