Don't really see myself making the full change to PC for games with the next generation of consoles coming out in a year or so.

You don't have to, you can have the best of BOTH worlds. I used to have a 360 and then a PS3, and used to play PC and then go over to consoles for FIFA and exclusives (Uncharted, God of War etc). I later sold the consoles cause I wasn't playing enough of them. Saying that, you will 99.99% of the time get a better looking game on PC. The graphics of a standard PC overpower any console in the market, so imagine a gaming PC.... Also you get cheaper prices on PC, better controls (most of the time), more customization and even mods.

What about consoles on a top of the line HDTV? They would probably have a chance against a gaming PC.

You could get the best top of the line HDTV, put a console next to it and it STILL wouldn't match the graphics from a strong gaming machine. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this as a PC Fanboy, because consoles graphics are great too, but just giving you the facts.

True, but I enjoy games most of the time even if some aren't that great. I don't look into little things and think the game is bad because of it. Saying that, I did try the XCOM Demo and enjoyed it. I was exactly what I was expecting, with the turn based gameplay. I used to love playing turn based but sadly these days I just don't have the time.

Consoles match a PC from 6 years ago, or maybe some budget gaming PC from Walmart. Nothing can compare to a proper gaming rig. The response time of a HDTV is so poor, I wouldn't plug anything other than a Blu ray player or satellite to it. Gaming on the TV is for poor people.

Depends on the TV. A good gaming PC is going to be cheaper than buying a big HDTV + Console/Games.

When the new consoles come out, they should be about the same as a gaming machine, since that's when the current generation of consoles came out. Never heard of the response time on a TV being bad compared to a monitor.

WRONG on BOTH accounts, let me explain: - Consoles ARE cheaper, but games are more expensive. An no, there are more games for PC than both consoles put together. - When the new consoles come out, they will catchup to PC to maybe 2 year ago, but remember PC is also moving forward so it will be better. PC will ALWAYS be better graphics looking because of the way the tech is designed. - Most HDTVs have a worse response time than a monitor. Some come close to matching a good monitor.

So what exactly makes a gaming machine? Processor, RAM, video card, sound card. anything else?

Well yes, all the components of a PC. A gaming machine just has the higher end components, so lots of fast RAM, strong video card, fast CPU, good gaming motherboard, good gaming case etc etc. Also, gaming PCs (components) have come down a lot in price the last couple of years, so there is no need to spend $4000+ on a gaming PC anymore. Depending on the country, but here in Aus with $1500 you get a very strong machine (building it urself)

Sounds good, but it's too much work to build a machine yourself. I did notice the graphics on the PC I have don't transfer over to the 1080i HDTV I have. Of course you get the fact that the screen is larger, but no details.

Maybe I will some day, but I don't have the resources available. The places around here might not have all the best hardware. I could figure it out by researching online, but then I'll have to worry I'm not getting the very best stuff. The video card is important, the monitor is probably important. I want to make sure the games will run smoothly as possible. RAM and CPU. What is this thing about a motherboard?

You do realize taste in games varies right? If there are thousands giving a game 9.0+ and you don't enjoy it the same way the problem is not the game, gamespot members, or hype, it is YOU. Even if one person in the world loves a game and shares it here it is not their fault if you buy it and don't like it. It amazes me that people are so arrogant as to think their view of a game is THE end all be all judgement.

All I know is this game is awesome, having a blast playing it. If you or anyone else doesn't like it not my problem for "hyping" it.

The motherboard is where everything gets connected to. The video card, RAM, CPU etc. It's also called the MAINboard cause it's exactly that, the main board where everything connects. Do a quick google search about basic PC components and concepts and u'll learn what each thing does. As for places, there isn't computer shops where you live? You can also buy a computer pre-made at shop or even online, and it arrives at ur doorstep ready to go (like a console).

There's a few game shops like futureshop and EB games. There are probably a few computer shops around, but I haven't found any around here.

I looked a couple of streams on twitch and this looks actually pretty good compared to most sequels. Still the price tag is too much for me since i am not gaming that often anymore so i'll just wait for now :D.
