It can, but generally only because of some bug or some other weird effect. In general if your PC isnt the best it does take some extra resources to run xfire(especially if you have x64bit, takes about 2processes instead of just 1).
I'm sure some others will disagree, but I say it does indeed effect frames to an extent/maybe even just bugged.
I have absolutely nothing aganst xfire, in fact I use it everyday, all day. But bugs in xfire do rarely crash my games, hurts frames, etc.
I should note though, that effecting frames prob wouldnt be much, very very low number. But I've always been picky about FPS, cant even stand it when fps are below 70 in any game. So for me, every frame counts. =)
