yet another WoW player takes his gaming to far.. stabs neighbor

once again WoW nublets are making headlines.

a canadian resident of peterburough ontario who goes by the name of justin williams after raising verbal hades on a microphone chat system during a WoW play session on july 11th woke up the neighbors the parent of the apartment next door knocked on his door asked him to keep it down and to "calm down cause its jsut world of warcraft". justin butthurt over someone telling him the harsh reality that it was just a game decided that he was going to silence the peanut gallery and stabbed his poor neighbor in the chest with a conveniently located knife.

I don't know where you live, but most apartments have a low noise policy at night. At least all the ones I've been in do. Usually like 10pm-6am is supposed to be somewhat quiet. I mean, normal sounds are fine, just no loud partying, yelling, fighting, etc.

I don't know where you live... but in California, there's a 9pm curfew - can't play loud music, or make excessive noise (i.e. loud party, etc). There are steps to take, like asking a neighbor ahead of time that' you're going to be loud because of a party or celebration. But to do it without any consent AFTER curfew time, is against the law here. You can call the police. I have done it myself because things really got out of hand. I have family that live out in Burbank, California, and people there won't hesitate to call the police due to excessive noise.

There needs to be a standard. This "aint" the woods man.

Yeah, that's simply not true. There are noise level laws pretty much anywhere there's an apartment building. And either way, yeah, doesn't give that stupid f**k the right to stab him. I hope they give him the chair. That'd be a f*cking reality check. Too bad they won't, cuz it's Canada.

Games, advertisements, movies, magazines, websites, even blogs and books are designed to appeal to our indulgent tendencies. In short, one can't sincerely accuse videogames of promoting irrational behaviour, without taking a major stand against every single consumer product in existance.

WoW does'nt create monsters, it just happens to be a "safe haven" for people, who find it hard to exist in a conventional society.

While I'm disgusted by this act of violence, I can't help but feel sad for the assailent as well.Stabbing someone because "WoW is not just a game but your life" means that you're a broken and depressed human being, desperately in need of help.

As far as I'm concerned "videogame addiction" does'nt specifically relate to games, but to the need for aRaison d'êtrein a philosophical sense.

Not true at all. You can be evicted probably from any apartment in North America for blasting a big enough subwoofer in the early AM. Why do you think cops break up house parties? Same thing applies to apartments.

You give WoW too much of a free pass, there are many mechanisms in the game specifically designed to appeal to those with addictive tendencies.
