Hi guys,

Was just browsing online the other day and for some reason i couldn't help but remember my first time jumping in the boots of the legend himself - Dr Gordon Freeman. As soon as i thought about it the memories came flooding back, from the crowbar to the crossbow, Black Mesa to Xen, and thought to myself 'damn they were good times'. I remember losing myself within the game, i hadn't played anything like it! I was compelled to keep playing, i was experiencing something new, thinking to myself maybe if something like this DID happen, would i be as far as i am right now? All these feelings just came back to me, and i finally thought will i ever experience any times like that again playing another FPS? This is the experience that i remember most, and to a certain extent cherish in a way. This is probably so very random (and wierd) but just thought i'd start a small thread, to see if any of you FPS fanatics out there have a certain FPS game/experience/triumphant moments that you seem to always remember and occasionally think back to yourself saying; i wish i could do that all over again.

Tommo.

That hall in the first Quake where you select the difficulty... For some reason, that's an image I can't forget.

Most of Quake's levels are impressive, I remember them better than a lot of other FPS levels. The secret Ziggurat Vertigo level is the best, IMO.

There are several, but one game the comes to mind is Rainbow Six!

The first time i started it up I just didn't get it.
"What, you can only take one shot? And you don't even see your gun!)

But then I found out how the tactical planing worked.
God how satisfying it was to complete a mission that worked perfectly!

And I've been missing that feeling since Raven Shield...

Mostly HL(both he first and the second) and Doom.

The best of the best has to be in TF2 when I fired a crit rocket and killed three Snipers.

Will when I played CSS I really enjoyed the ZM that was in the game. I use to love the levels where I was the last one left and I would have myself barricaded in a room with everyone outside the door trying to get in and turn me into a zombie, all I would have is my shotgun and a vent just in case they got in I had a the vent to jump out and drop about 4 stories tell I hit the ground and kill myself just so I don't become a zombie hahahaha. Man so many goodtimes.

Halo's storming the beach in "The Silent Cartographer" and rampaging through "Assault on the Control Room" on Legendary, clearing the area of those goddamn Jackals with a pistol from 250m away and triggering the ♪♫ba-da-da-duuum / dum-dum-dum-duuuuum♪♫ theme just as four of those Elite bastards scream around the corner on Ghosts, flanked by flailing hoards of Grunts with a deluded sense of safety until a headshot scatters the entire group into screaming "they're everywhere!".

The sense of satisfaction when sticking a Hunter. Running out of ammo in the Assault Rifle and a quick "B" tap to knock the scum to the ground. Laying waste to the flood with reckless abandon. Having Guilty Spark tell you off for shooting him/her. That final Warthog dash as the Pillar of Autumn collapses around you.

Absolute f***ing bliss.

Haha i totally agree with you on that one Frag, especially the beach landing at the beginning of 'The Silent Cartographer'. Talking of beaches, i have to say MoH:Frontline, the D-Day landing, first level. That's definately one WWII game i will always remember...

HALF LIFE 2: ravenholm, seeing the legs of some unfortunate person hanging from a tree. i didnt see what it was, and i went closer, i nearly shat myself.

all the moments with alyx:oops:. i love they way there are no cutscenes.

the dark energy level, going along the prison place with stalkers. that was scary.

and obviously the end, when the gman says: time? doctor freeman. UNFREAKINGBELIEVABLY COOL!!! i just went aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhzomgnofreakingway and sat there drooling for about ten minutes.

PORTAL: the ending, i cried with laughter.

CALL OF JUAREZ: when you first look down on the western village, i just love a good setting. also the open plain missions with billy.

Definitely popping heads on CTF facing worlds in the original unreal tournament.

Also had a really awesome moment in BF 1942 Desert combat where I pulled a two wheeler with a buggy and a rocket went flying underneath the car.

And last but not least getting beaten to death in the beginning of HL 2.

Such great memories *sobs*

Quake 4: The Stroggification process. I LOVED that bit. Playing it in a pitch black room = awesome.

UT3: Playing it online, I headshotted a guy without scoping with the sniper, AND the best bit was. He was on a hoverboard at the time xD

Crysis: My second time playing through the Tank battle. The first time I didn't really get why everyone loved it, but second time round, it just clicked. And I freaking LOVED IT.

My favourite moment being after my tank had been blown up (I suck at not getting it blown up >.>) I stealthed to one of the AA guns and places C4 on it, then ran off, ducked into the grass and watched it explode, killing the soldiers that were near it. Then, I stood up, pleased with a job well done, and saw a tank aiming at me. I ran, switching to armour mode to absorb as much damage as I could, jumped at it, put C4 on it, and ran off, pushing the detonator.

Good fun =D

When I walked around Mars City in the beginning of Doom 3, I loved how detailed everything was and thought to myself "I wouldn't mind living here!". But when the monsters came I kinda scrapped that thought.

Every time I fought Cyber Demon in Doom 2.

When I tossed a smoke grenade infront of a opening leading up to Bomb Site A, jumped sideways and fired off a burst shot. Hitting a Terrorist player with a AVP in the head on pure luck. I also got kicked from the server 15 seconds afterwards cause they thought I used Aim bot.

When I was hit by a redemmer missile in Unreal tournament 3 and was the only one who for some odd reason survived, must've been a glitch but boy was I amazed.

I definantly agree with that!

But Half Life was the best game memory I've had. I accidently came across it a week or so after its release. The game seemed, to me at least, like it wasn't very popular at the time, I went home, and I just couldnt stop playing. I thought to myself "wow, this game is great, I wonder why I had never heard of it?" Next time I saw it, it was Game of the Year and all over the place.

in central park, at night, snow covered, and that beautiful music... oh the mood of the entire game, not many games at all have come close to the mood and atmosphere of Parasite eve.

i know its not an FPS, but i just wanted to post that.

Call of duty 1 - This game and its sequels were BUILT for these kinds of moments.

-The mission where you run through a mine field and use dead cows for cover. It's so quiet and then....BOOM all of the sudden it's so loud I have to turn the volume down.

-The russian mission where you storm up the hill with hundreds of other soldiers and no weapon.

-Pavlov on veteran- One of the toughest sections in any action game ive played.

Call of Duty 4 - So many moments. The sound (especially the music) in this game are so good. The opening of Charlie Don't Surf and Crew Expendable. Epic.

Half Life 2 - The airboat chase sequence. Ravenholm.

Rainbow Six - That opening movie. So slick.

Goldeneye - Facility. Tons of shenanigans in multiplayer or screwing around with cheat codes. Those were the days...

Halo 1 2 3 - Too many to count. That part in number two where you're crossing that huge bridge on Earth in a tank comes to mind. Any encounter with the flood.

Once in BF1942 I did one of them kills that I'll probably tell the grandkids about. Basically plane coming right at me, machine guns firing. Standing there without any cover around me I'm thinking "There is no way out of this one". For some reason I just bring the zoom in my sniper up and aim for the cockpit. I fire. Sure enough, it worked; plane flies into a cliff just above my head and I'm there thinking "Damn, that was good". Back in those days you just didn't EXPECT to be able to kill someone that way.

Im not a big fan of FPS, but I really loved the Half-Life series, especially Half-Life 2

One of the greatest moments in that game was in the Chapter Nova Prospekt as soon when you enter that trashed prison and a very ambient synthetic raw music start. That was a great moment

Also, the Chapter Our Benefactors when you first enter the Combine fortress and you are on the rail ride looking how creepy that place was. It left me hooked

And last but not least, in the Chapter Follow Freeman when you first engage a group of striders. God that game was great!!

I didnt play many FPS's growing up. The only FPS that I can say I had the greatest time playing was Golden Eye 007. I guess I'm not a huge FPS fan. I'm more into RPG/Adventure games. Oh yeah, I thought Crysis was great and Half-Life 2 was solid.
