Since right now, I can pre-order it for only $50, I want to know your thoughts on it. Is it a great improvment from Vista or just a little change in looks. Any new features that are cool with Windows 7? Is it worth the $50. Any improvments to gaming? Thanks for any imput.

Currently i'm using the latest beta, and loving it. It's actually running faster than xp did, and looks awesome as well. Nothing really too new, They pretty much took vista's look, made it nicer, and then actually made it run well. Haven't gotten a chance to try out DX 11 yet, (as the cards haven't released) but from what i hear it'll be another overhaul of dx10 so that it too, runs better. I'd recommend it.

yep i think it's much better than vista. most things you can do in less clicks and quicker. its also better for larger displays and large resolutions (nicer enlargement of everything, unlike vista). not sure if it's worth the retail original non-preorder non-upgrade price, but $50 sounds good.

Is it bloatware like Vista?

Surely it doesn't require even more RAM for comfortable use?

There is an Ultimate Upgrade, but they don't advertise it as much as it goes for $220. But that didn't stop me from preordering my Windows 7 Ultimate.

Better than vista,i still think they should have made it much much cheaper..and im talking about the full package, not the upgrade option which hardly anyone uses as its prone to giving you more problems than a simple format and full installation.

I am using Windows 7 RC right now and I must say, no problems at all. Apart from a few compatibility issues with applications including Crysis.

I think Widnows 7 is basically a fixed up OS of Vista. But maybe Vista SP2 will come out soon but Windows 7 is probably the obvious choice.

Win 7 is the best win in a long time, if not ever. And it's still not out of Beta!

I heard rumors that Microsoft might be terminating the beta earlier than the 2010 date they set? Does anyone know if this is true?

Don't get the Win 7 hype, Vista has been great for ages, and they are basically charging a full price for a tweaked Vista, I got both I dual boot, Win 7 is basically Vista. Peopel are so un-informed and ignorant when it comes to Vista.

I don't like the Explorer interface in Vista or 7.. that's really what bothers me the most. But 7 is asolid 64-bit platform with some real support, and it seems to run a lot better than Vista. The few problems I had when I first tried it were fixed in the newer build I downloaded (on 7100 now) and I haven't had any problems with this one so far.

Vista runs fine here, although I am definitely taking advantage of the preorder deal. I agree, Vista was pretty much the paid beta for Windows 7 and they aren't that different.

I upgraded from the Beta to the Release client and truly think it runs worse. I had no problems witht he Beta but now when using FlightsimX I am getting an out of memeory error when flying that I never got in the Beta build. I was loving Windows 7 but now I am rethinking it.

FamiBox

I like W7 a lot but it does use half a gig more ram at rest than XP does.

Vista was just the next "Windows ME"... a poorly performing stopgap between two "serious" OS releases.

Sticking with Vista is like saying "No, you can keep your XP... I'm gonna stick with Windows ME".

Just loaded 7 onto a spare computer - did an in place Vista to 7 upgrade and so far everything is smooth. Going to test different software and games on it to see if its worth upgrading my main computer when its released.
