Your thoughts on SoulStorm

I know for a fact there are many DOW fans out here on the gamespot forums, and was wondering you guys are picking up soulstorm? I own all 3 games so far, and I will NOT be picking up this game. After reading the review, and playing the demo I just think that Dark Crusade is still the best game to play in the series.

You have to really think is SoulStorm really helping the series out or is it just something to push until DOW 2 comes out?

I think that Air Units are not really necessary in this game, and they feel out of place, and the 2 new races are cool and all, but with 7 races already I probably won't even play them. So with no story campaign, and no graphical enchancment I am gonna stick to DarkCrusade.

Thinking of getting it, but waiting for a price reduction (I have all the other 3 as well).Judza

3 expansion packs is enough for DOW. DOW 2 will be announced soon, I will wait for it and buy it on the first day.

I think as soon as a expansion comes out for a online game then it gets ruined because it changes too much and splits up the community.

I think anyone with any of the expansions can play with anyone who don't have them. Or atleast that applied before this expansion.

I got it and love it. The new races are perfectly balanced. The "air" units are really not much different than the already existing skimmers. Being that they can be taken down readily they don't change gameplay much at all.

The new campaign game is great fun, reminiscent of the way the campaign worked in the Epic Warhammer 40k game Final Liberation. Lots of replayability that linear, story driven campaigns don't have.

And at long last one can say that every force in tabletop 40k is now represented in the game. Yeah, yeah no Tyranids. Know why there never will be? They don't have things like strategy, objectives, or alliances. They just swarm nigh mindlessly, which is why they have no place in an objective based RTS.

I can understand wanting to wait until the steep price drops, but to say you don't want to have it is just inane.

Borrowed it from a friend who purchased it on the day of release. Played with the Imps through all 4 planets on normal setting.

Now, i feel like i wasted my time to be honest. Graphics are crap to put it mildly, one would have expected just some form of improvements to the visual scene but sadly no.

Also, the game still lacks simple things such as propper zoom range, support for resolution above 12x10 and for the love of god, get some more AA into the game before people's eye's start to bleed.

Vehicle pathing issues are the same, flying units are a complet joke as its just skimmers with a different hight value then other skimmers. It looks fantasticly stupid watching them travers the terrain.

Sisters lack range like the basic human needs water. Their best ranged weapon is the heavy bolter. Sure they got Multimelta's but to what good if they're all short ranged and you can practicly stand there with a squad of basic imp soldiers at medium range and pick off an entire SoB squad as easy has taking candy from a child?.

Also, i keep getting the feeling that the dark elves were added to this expansion just for the heck of it....they honestly don't seem to fit in and they are incredibly boring to play. All in all this is a piss poor expansion that was done half assed. To many things feel out of order and taking over numerous fields and having to build your base EACH TIME instead of keeping hte old one you had established is really something to piss one off completly....

Im sad that DoW has been given such an expansion because this is more or less a copy/paste job from DC.

p.s if you're running a higher reso then 12x10. then try and notice the planetary maps and how they don't size up to the whole screen.

I think it's a very unnecessary expansion that adds very little worthwhile to the actual game. Neither of the new armies interests me, air units don't interest me and the revised campaign doesn't really seem worth playing.

Playing the demo just made me realise how much I love DoW, though - so it got me back into the game. Which is nice.

I am not gonna buy it, though. I'm waiting on DoW2.

I wouldn't recommend it for the following reasons:

1)It's a $40 expansion pack to a game released in 2004.

2)No real graphical improvements.

3)The revised SP metamap is boring and repetitive.

4)The Space Marines get nerfed even more.

5)The 2 new armies are uninteresting and so are the air units which don't add anything to the gameplay.

6)There is even less of a story in the campaign mode and the commanders don't have their banter against each other during stronghold missions.

7)The stronghold missions are all copy and paste of each other.

8 )The new commanders are even lamer than the ones from the DC, save Force Commander Borale, but its not a big competition against Thule.

9)The new commanders don't even have their own voice samples, they're just borrowed from the DC.

They're just milking the game imo.

I bought Soulstorm two weeks ago. Is not as good as Dark Crusade in terms of innovation, but has some tweaks and changes to make more slow the tech race, so you can't reach Tier 3 in 7-8 mins like in DC.

About the new races, who cares? I was using only Chaos since DoW, I rarely try to use another race; also, I must ad that I finished the first DoW campaign, but not the ones in the expansions and I have played 200+ hours per game, but only in mp.
