Zune screen is bigger but I find the ipod screens to be a tad sharper. I got the zune for music since from an audio standpoint it sounds better than the ipod, has better battery life and also has a FM radio

I'd wait until at least until Mac OS Leopard has been released at possibly the end of March. The iPod is due for an upgrade and a Leopard launch event would be good time to make an announcement.

i got an ipod video and its awesome. some stores are selling them cheaper than the zune now. i got mine at circuit city for $210. also, the battery life really isnt that bad. a really good way to increase battery life is to turn down the brightness on the screen all the way down. i dont understand why anyone would need the brightness any higher than it is at the lowest setting. it wouldnt kill anyone to just plug in their ipod when it needs charging. people expect it to last for a week of solid listening. if you like video, get a zune since it has a bigger screen, but the zune isnt as established as the ipod so things like music sharing are pretty pointless.

The Zune may not be as established. But the iPod lacks many features ... and has mediocre audio quality to boot.

if you bought your music from itunes (legally), then get the ipod video because those legally purchased are drm'ed only to work with itunes and ipod. if you downloaded your music by "other means" (honestly who hasn't), then get the zune. i have the zune and i love it. the problem is that the video files have to be in wmv format because it won't play anything else. to other user: the reason the ipod video looks sharper is because while the zune has a bigger screen, they kept the resolution the same at 320 x 240, this makes the image softer. but, video start-up time and performace is better on the zune ( according to cnet). lastly, the zune allows you to listen to music and view pictures at the same time, unlike the ipod.

iPod video, why?

-Best Value: $350 for 80 gigs (5 hour video playback on a charge) is the best deal on the market in my opinion
-
Easy to use: Face it, most MP3 players are just complicated. The iPod has an extremely user friendly interface. you can pick it up and use it without ever looking at the manual.
-Sharp Screen
-
iTunes: iTunes has everything, from songs, to movies, to T.V. shows, and even games! And iTunes will only work with your iPod. iTunes has by far the best selection out there, and the games are a plus. (Zuma on an iPod... nothing better). Plus with an AV cable you can watch the movies you purchased online ($10 a movie) on your T.V. You can't beat that.

I dunno what kinda upgrade you're talking about. Maybe you're thinking of a firmware update because Apple isn't coming out with a new iPod, at least not in the usual sense. Their iPhone is their sixth generation iPod.

I've never had the chance to try out a Zune as they are not out in the uk yet but as for ipods.

I got one for my birthday a couple of years ago and all it gave me was trouble, i had 2 replacements and after the warranty rand out it broke again. I just have a sony erricson mp3 phone now. It's actually very good and means you don't have to carry about as many things either!
