I think that the best game I've ever played is the Devil May Cry series. The whole game keeps you on your toes and edge of your seat.
Well it's easier to break it down...
RPG-Final Fantasy X, the well crafted story, engaging characters and let's not forget Nobuo Uematsu's epic and soulful, and at times haunting, soundtrack makes this one of my farorites in the FF series (VI, VII and VIII aren't too bad either).
Action/Adventure/Platformer-
Okami-What can I say that already hasn't been said about this game? A beauty to behold and sheer fun to play, Okami reminds me of my days of Zelda on the SNES. Drawing from the mythology of the Shinto religion was IMHO a storke of awesome.
Ico-A world that sucks you in from the opening cenematic to the almost tear-jerking end, this game leaves you breathless. And puzzles keep your mind SHARP.
Shadow of the Colossus-A game with just boss fights? Unheard of until SotC, and not just any boss fights. Ranging in size from a RV to what seems like a moutain, the adventure in finding these colossi is just part of the fun.
God Of War-Hard as it is epic in scope, GOW breathed a breath of fresh air into the genra (sp). The tale of a tourmented soul on his quest to kill Aries slices into you from beginning to bloody end. With clever puzzles that were put in not as an afterthought but to compliment the game, this is a must have title for anyone that likes Action/ Adventure games.
Devil May Cry series-The first born bada$$ of the PS2, Dante and his skills and weapons for any situation made the PS2 a must have system (DMC2 was a letdown). Showtime!
Shooter-Killzone, so it wasn't the Halo killer that Sony had hoped for, but so what. Other than the lack of a jump button this shooter had a gritty story, albeit been-there-done-that. I have HIGH expectations for the KZ2.
Simulator-Armored Core series on PS2-Say what you will but love it or hate it, nothing beats firing your big boostick on another mech in the mission or arena mode. And with thousands of combonations you can make the mech of your dreams.
Survival/Horror-Silent Hill series...Resident Evil may have been the first, but the Silent Hill series put the Horror in Survival/Horror. Like H.P. Lovecraft on LSD, the Silent Hill games take hold of you and won't let go. Great sound design and a just as errie soundtracks keep me (and many people) coming back to the town of Silent Hill.
Fighting-This was a tough decision, but Soul Calibur won out in the end (SC2, SC3). Tekken 5 came in a close second.
And that's it. Keep in mind that these are some of the best IMHO.
God of War. The graphics are amazing, the story is really well crafted, and the gameplay is outstanding.reggie186I have to agree right along with MGS 3, and RE4.
