God of War looks awesome for a last-gen game (even for this gen IMO) on my 12 years old "BIG" (one of those 1000 lbs and 50 inches thick) screen tv

but i'm planning on investing HDTV real soon... and probably will look for PS2's component cable

any screen shots would be nice

Theres a code for high resolution graphics, sorry I dont have link, I think gamefaqs would have it though, either way it is out there.

Anyway, PS2 games look like crap on HDTV, it's a shame because Im going even further back to MGS 1 to relive the series before MGS 4 comes out, so if PS2 games look bad I cant imagine how bad a PS1 game will look

I have to agree with these statements as well. Even playing PS2 games on my PS3 didn't help a lot. Of course going from an old 20" CRT to a 32" HDTV was definetly different. Lu Bu definetly was a hell of a lot larger then I remember him. ~grin~ FFX and FF12 (graphics weren't great because it reminded me of FF11. ~shiver~) didn't look any better either. Dissappointing, but I am looking at a 22" LCD Monitor with connections that should allow me to hook up my PS2 and PS3. Hopefully, the smaller screen will have an effect.

The newer games have options that you can tweak to make the game look better on HDTV's. Ratchet & Clank: up your arsenal has a setting for progressive scan that makes it look significantly better. God of War 2 has a high-def code that you can enter that makes it look better, though I didn't notice that much of a difference as the game already looked spectacular. Dragon Quest looked a lot more pixelated on HD, but after a while you get used to it and don't notice it.

After a while, you get adjusted to it, and it is no problem. You won't be getting next-gen graphics out of the PS2 anyways, regardless of which TV you use.

Well, yes they can if you use the upscaler and smoother on the PS3. The newer games can display widescreen or normal and yes, they do look better if you have the right stuff to make them better.

short answer.... would be

No.

Be just the same as a 4:3 bigscreen, as far as clarity.

May even be worse, being that you'll be forced to use a stretch mode to fill the whole screen, or you'll play it with bars on the left and right sides of your screen via 4:3 on a 16:9 set. Very few games take advantage of the 16:9 ratio. And even fewer do it right. FF12's FMV did it wrong. and Tekken 5 did it wrong... thanxs to picture cropping.

Well, I used to have an 8 year old 17" samsung Tv, I recently bought a 27" HD, GOW2 looks really hot on it but it looks somewhat pixelated, FFXII looked exactly the same, and for everyone the GOW HD CODE IS:
Press and hold L1, L2, L3, Square and Circle as you boot up the game.
The code should be confirmed if the "sony computer ent. presents" message turns purple

L1, L2, L3, O and Square all at the same time during the title screen

It all depends on the size. ps2 is not hd compatible, so having an hd tv won't make any difference whatsoever. Just cause the tv is hd doesn't mean everything is HD. In order to have HDTV you need to buy hd cable. In order to have HD games you need a special cable for it, which doesn't exist for the ps2.

If the tv you're buying is big, it will look absolutely disgusting, especially ff12. The cutscenes look amazing, but the game is so horribly blocky it's hard to make out what Vaan is even wearing unless you do a closeup.
