Lol How it gonna die?
It has like way over 100 must play titles and games are still being rleased. plus this year name console with better games that was released in 2k7 than ps2.
There's lots of good games coming out. God of War, God of War 2, and Black are prime examples of great games that have learned to push the limits of the PS2 and as a result they look STUNNING and almost next gen quality. I think developers and publishers would make more money developing games for the PS2 right now because the average gamer can't or won't buy a "next gen" console. I am one who CAN afford a PS3 but I won't get one right now because it doesn't have the games I want yet and I have a lot of PS2 games that I haven't even finished yet. (God of War 2 is next on my buy list!)
Besides, like I've said before, I have played the PS3 and there is not that much of a leap from PS2 to PS3--not like the leap from PS1 to PS2 anyway.

Actually the leap is almost bigger. You'll just have to wait a few years to see it.
I still have some games that I'm backloging and I haven't bought Anniversary yet wich I will.
PS1 lasted 11 years.
PS2 has been around 7 years, is more successful than the PS1, and is (for the most part) outselling the 360/PS3, and keep (along with the PSP) SCEA in the black.
Sony is still supporting the PS2 ocassionally: God of war 2, hot shots tennis, 2 Buzz's, 2 singstars, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirro/twisted Metal Head on ports, NBA 08, and Wild ARMS 5.
It's still getting 3rd party support: the next crash game (Crap since Naughty Dog quit making them), the next Spyro game (crap since insomniac stopped making them), guitar hero 3, madden 08, and more.
this is why i hold off on a lot of PS2 titles until a few years after when the prices go down. This way i have a big chunck of games to play when too many people are b****ing and moaning about the drought of games on the next-gen consoles.
Now i have over 10 RPGs to enjoy on the PS2 while everyone else is sitting around talking about PS2 dieing.
Maybe by 2010 there will be no more new PS2 games but it won't die until 2020 or so. PS2 will be like NES. NES has been out for more than 20 years and some are still loving it...like me. :)

If developers keep making games for it, then the PS2 will continue to live. When developers put an axe through their production, that's when the console becomes to "die" out. I personally think there should be more 3rd party developers out there that should give their attention more towards a console that's still going strong instead of abandoning their original fans and going onto the next-gen so fast.

I agree that the PS2 will eventually die out, but that is not for another 5 years at least. The game designers are realizing that despite the new PS3 *SHIMMER*, gamers are looking for an experience that will not leave their wallets completely drained for the same high electric bill that EVERYONE has had and only a tiny improvement in graphics technology. There is nothing revolutionary about putting a laptop hardrive into a gaming system! Does that mean that I wouldn't play WoW on a PS3 if I could? No way, but it is too much to ask for publisers and designers tomake games for a systemthat has a small fan base and "limited support" for the games we've all come to know and love. Look at your PS3s... do you see a system that has changed the world for the better? Do you get a johnson over the technical support and shear lack of interest that it's own creators hold onto? Do all of you seriously believe that games like Shin Megami Tensei and .Hack// are going to put a penny into a box that can hardly keep up decent inventory when they could make their games interactive with something like the Wii? (not to say that Wii is better than PS3 or that it will EVER compare to our allies of all nighters)
My point is that we still have a long time with our old companions. Whether we go out and trade it in for another system is based on game enjoyment, not how fancy we can make things before the public finds out that they miss what they had. The PS3 movement will end with a lot of game publishers and designers being staggered and helpless, it only HURTS the gaming world. They know that. I know that. Now I hope that YOU know that. Don't trade in Besse yet...
