First one.
The story was much better presented. When you go into Disney world you go there not to just help random Disney characters but to find more about the ongoing story.Battle system didn't have the sparkles KHII had but it was more challenging and rewarding.
KHII is all talk and no walk. It's story is badly presented and it only picks up after you've cleared all 13 Disney worlds.The battle system was better with the addition of reaction commands but the game was so easy that you only needed to mass bash X button and you will win 95% of battles.Â

Part II is no better than the crappy straight to video sequel of a real good Disney film. So many bad design flaws ruined that game which I think is a shame.
You get this really stupid plot regarding these mysterious Organization XIII which is quite possible the worst enemy organization in a video game.
The worlds are microscopic with the exception of the Pride Lands (best part of the game BTW). In part I, there was a wee bit of exploration going on. You can't go to certain areas unless you got a special ability. In II, the developers must have felt really lazy and gave us really boring worlds with no exploration. Agrabah was cool in the first game, now, it's barely 5 rooms max. And may I remind of the HORRORS that is Atlantica in part II. I may be gay and like musicals but I wanted to hurl durring those musical numbers where Haley Joel Osment can't sing a note in tune!
The game was designed that even a 3 year old can beat it. It's too damn easy. Pride Mode is no harder than the standard difficulty in the original.
Sure the game has a better battle system, camera controls. But what good is that when it was so boring and easy. What a terrible sequel, I think the series should end now. The Disney mixed with Final Fantasy magic is gone. It only worked in 2002, not anymore. RIP Kingdom Hearts.
Although I think I'd have to disagree that it's better storywise because in KHII it seemed like you were just jumping from world to world just to help the Disney characters. TheAbstrakt
Yes! Finally somebody else who agrees! The Disney element is nice, but I hate it when the actual KH story takes a backseat to helping Disney characters do stuff we've already seen in the movies.
I'll go with Kh2 but there is some stuff that Kh does better
althought the storyline of Kh2 is more interesting sometimes it takes forever for the storyline to pick up some speed, then it die again etc, while kh1 the whole game is the story Â
What's with all the hate being hurled at KH2? Let me first address the issue everyone has with Disney world hopping. Why does everyone think that going from world to world was so boing compared to the world to world in the first KH? IT'S EXACTLY THE SAME, only better. In the first you went from world to world helping Disney characters in they own endeavors while simotaneously seaching for Riku, Kairi, and King Mickey. In the second you went from world to world helping Disney characters in they own endeavors while simotaneously seaching for Riku, Kairi, and King Mickey. It just happens that the second one did a much better job in doing it then the first.
Second, and most importantly, the narrative in KH2 was much much better than it was in the first. The first one was constantly plagued with narrow story telling that didn't do much at all to contribute to the rest of the game. I do agree that Atlantica was horrible in the second and could have been done without. The difficulty could also have been noched up a bit. KH2 was not without it's faults, but it was such an improvement over the first that most of those faults can be easily overlooked. KH2 practically righted every wrong in the first with flying colors. But don't take my word for it, just look at all the numerous reviews it recieved that said it was an amazing game. They can speak for themselves. I hate to break to all of you KH2 haters out there, but you are in the vast minority, and you have my sympathy. I could go on all day, but I feel it is not worth it. I will most likely change no one's mind. But before I end, please do not think for a second that I thought the first KH was a bad game. On the contrary, it was awesome. Just not as good as the the second.
Truthfully, the first game was so much better, because of the extras, collectibles, and some platforming. Also the story was much better (organization xiii sucks and so does roxas) Every world that was in the first was worse when you go back to it in the second (atlantis, agrabah, olympus, and especially nightmare before christmas which was totally dull) The pirates level was dull also. I did like the steamboat willy world, pride lands, mulans area and space paranoids but that is a small section in a very long game. Pretty much every area of the second was walk in->trigger cutscene->fight enemies->next screen->new cutscene->boss fight. There was no exploration and less emphasis on disney.super_police
QFT. KH2 is a real downer. Â
KH is better simply because it has a better story. KH2 is convoluted crap that you'd expect from an anime fanfic or something not to mention the character designs - everyone's a skater punk/emo kid. Organization XIII and their Nobodies are sorry excuses for bad guys more so than the guy from FFX.
KH1 was put together much much better. With KH2 the worlds were too linear (aside from Twilight Town), and there was no strategy to the battles aside from a few Organization XIII members. The main thing that KH2 has over the first one is the camera, especially since there was no challenge in KH2 at all if you levelled up a bit... Proud Mode wasn't hard at all.
Sadly, all of my complaints about KH2, including the story and pacing, seem to be addressed with its Final Mix version. However, Nomura doesn't seem to see a point in releasing it outside of Japan, which to me is a crime. We're getting denied not only an even harder difficulty level, but story scenes that help the pacing, new areas to explore, tons of new bosses, and even Lv. 99 versions of all 13 Organization members. :(Â
