Since I have a ps3, and metal gear solid 4 is coming out for it some time in the future, I thought I'd try and get into it by buying the second and third on eBay.  I just got them in, and I played the second for a few minutes, so far I love the story.  The gameplay is a bit weird to me though.  Should I stick with it, are there any tips for how I can enjoy the gameplay more?

I played MGS 2, and so far I'm the only one I know who really enjoyed it. I thought it was great up until
Everyone went insane at the end and you destroy like three metal gears with a rocket launcher. And get a sword :S
But overall, a great game, I'd say finish it off. If you're not very far into it then maybe you just haven't hit any really good parts yet.

EDIT: And as for 3, once again, another great game. Significantly harder though, so if you're liking more of a challenge, play this too.

Stick at it! It's a great game. It helps a bit if you'd played the first but really it's a fantastic game. Don't get too attached to playing as Snake though. You'll see why when you finish the tanker. Get used to stopping and aiming and shooting. Take your time don't go too fast. It's a sneaking game.

Or if you want to go fast run and press x to knock down and enemy and just keep on running. Once you get the shooting down things become much easier.

You can flatten yourself against a wall and knock to distract enemies. Very useful. After you knock out/kill people lift there bodies and drop them quickly... sometimes they drop items.

Hold enemies up with ur weapons (ie. sneak up from behind and aim at them... Snake will shout FREEZE!! Then run in front of the and aim at them again.) They will drop a dogtag which you can collect. Some enemies are harder to get them from than others.

Also I'm nearly sure there's a tutorial which shows all the moves and controls.

Stick at the game, you'll get into it pretty quickly and once you do the gameplay is excellent!

go through the game slowly and play tactically. i do that and love it.

and there are so many different things to do in mgs3 (i know for a fact) there are cutscenes that you only get if you save and turn off your ps2 at some points.

my favoritre game series ever, but i dont have a ps3 and cant afford one so mgs4.... QQ

What about the first part ? MGS 2 is a direct sequel to MGS. MGS 3 is a prequel to the other 2

the best way to enjoy the gameplay is to try and be as stealthy as possible, thats what the game is intended for. you might find it a bit weird atm (and im just assuming here) because youare still in the tanker section with that one pistol which isnt as fun, wait till u get to the second section, where the plot really opens up and you get a whole heap of extra guns and everything and you will really enjoy it. there's alot more action aswell as stealth sections and the story just gets better and better.

mg2 and 3 are probably 2 of the best games you could possibly buy on ps2 so stick at it and seriously you will not be disappointed.
