PS1 games are harder. Every gen gets easier.skp_16Although there are exceptions (ie: DMC or Ninja Gaiden), I have to agree... Unfortunately. We're not only losing out on challenge with the newer game but I can't help but notice that there's more focus on graphics than there is gameplay or story. It's almost like games have gone to Hollywood. :(
Overall i will say ps1, probably because it's more dated, like clunky controls and camera angels etc.

they sure have, it sucks. i mean sure we have nice things to look at and listen to but I watch films for that I need something inspiring, not a Hollywood Blockbuster-turned video game.
YEAH!!
I mean most of the games that was from a movie sucks big time!
And yeah ppl are more concentrating on graphics rather than the quality of the game. This is why FF7 is debateable as the best FF, it has great storylines, nice gameplay, but the graphic is not as beautiful as the later FF series...
Imagine FF7 with FF12 graphics.... *drool*
For me, it depends on the game. Some of my PS 1 games are HARD (parasite eve) and some of my PS 2 games are hard (GTA: Liberty City Stories). I do agree that some (not all) developers are concentrating on graphics more than the quality of the game. RatchetJunkie20Those same companys also lose out on alot of profit by doing so. Just look at clover studios (viewtiful joe, God hand, Okami)

Yeah like the FF7 tech demo that was shown for the PS3? It might happen yet.
i think most game on the ps1 because of limited gameplay but until today the games are improved and easier to beat because the controls are alot better as well the camera and graphigs.
but there are a few games like DMC,ninja gaiden where the difficult is higher then ordinairy games...

I think it's a combination of games getting slightly easier over time, but also that we have all gotten better at playing the games we do. Once you've played so many games of a similar genre, you start to see patterns and trends, to the point where you'll enter a room or see a switch, and you'll know exactly what's going to happen next.
Maybe, in that respect, there's also a lack of originality and we're becoming too familiar with the industry.
yeah most games were harder on ps1 but if the game has a difficulty setting boost it up to max^_^. I had many hours of fun with God of war on god mode, also puyo pop fevers ai pretty hard to beat on max and guilty gear isuka's is defenitely hard on difficulty 999 ^_~. If theres a difficulty setting you'll probably have more fun at max or close to it.
I'll have to go with PS2.
Yeah,PS1 had some hard games but it was all thanks to faulty controls and developers lazyness to fix them IMO.
PS2 on the other hands got Capcoms ultra as*raping hard games and some more hard exclusive titles(Jak II,God of War)Â
There's a lot that could be said with this. As some have said the focus today is mainly on graphics which is sad in my opinion especially when you've been gaming since the begining and have seen what games were then compared to now. For a game to be good before it had to have a story in it. It could have had the worst graphics but the story was engaging and drew you in. Today every game has to have Hollywood style graphics which is nice but the stories suck, no originality and so on.
Also the longer a person plays the better you will get at games and know what to expect. This comes back to the originality which is sorely lacking in games today. Every game is either a port or sequel or steals from multiple games.
Another thing to consider is with these Hollywood style of effects and such in games today we can only expect the cost of games to continue to rise. Unless there is a new kind of distrubution for games in the future besides a dics or cart. then I have no doubt we will soon be paying $100 per game. The developers are just passing the cost along to us but hopefully a different type of distrubition could cut the cost to some degree.Â
What an overly generalized question. I would have to go with neither, I doubt any of you have played the entire PlayStation library yet alone the PS2. I suggest some of you to go back and play that harder PS1 game now and tell me how is it. You may surprisingly find it easy.
To counter set some of you, music games are much harder on the PS2 than the PS1.

No way, most ps2 games are noob friendly compared to the ps1 games, i should know.

PS1 games are harder than PS2.
The more games you play, the newer ones seem to be a bit easier.... dunno why!
Afcours there are exceptions but we are discussing the mainstream games. What an overly generalized question. But Resident Evil was never that hard in the first place. Capcom even made them easier too (Director's Cut versions for 1 & 2, Nemesis can be played on Easy right off the bat). Also, as far as I'm concerned the PS2 Resident Evils have been sub par (Code Veronica is better on the old Dreamcast), it was only part 4 that was the remarkable one which of course came from the Gamecube (and is slightly harder on the PS2).
Please show some examples of mainstream PS1 games that are harder than the mainstream PS2 games. Â

what he said, true gamers lived in the past... now the word noob is created, i wonder why lol

(I wont mention the RE for ps1 games because they are very similar to dino crisis1)
mainstream on PS1: Apocalypse, Parasite ever 1 & 2, Dino crisis 1 & 2, Fear effect
mainstream on PS2: Timesplitters, Black, god of war, prince of persia, RE4
These are just the first few games that pop up in my head when it comes to mainstream, i did not intentionally try to pick easy/hard games
For me,i found that the old ps1 game is harder than ps2 gameFinalsoulXThese days Boss fights in all games are gettin way easier! Even the little obstacles that come in the middle of the game are tough!
i dont know if you played god hand or not, but it was hard game, compared to dmc especially.
if you dodge it will get harder, if you get hit you will die, so lets choose.
you can finish dmc with s rank but in god hand there is no way to finish without dying. that makes it fun, but its a hard game for you.
other than god hand, i dont remember hard games but, when i think of tekken 3 and 5, tekken3's last fight was so easy compared to tekken5's last boss, except tekken5's last boss was so easy with hwoarang. well maybe i memorized tekken3 but still i dont think ogre was so hard.
final fantasy's last boss or seymour whatever the boss is made me think better strategy for beating but ps1 ff games were easy. also shadow hearts' last boss is another hard fight in ps2. i think only hard fight was vagrant story last boss, though i think people say its easy, i dont know what i did wrong to make that boss hard for me.
both ps1 and ps2 are not so hard, except few games but, i dont even remember hard time on ps1, except vagrant storyÂ
well both game consoles r the same
there r hard games n easy games in both game consoles
u cant jus say tht ps1 is harder cos u played a game in ps1 n u found it hard
n u cant do the same towards ps2
the onli way to get this conclusion is to try out all game sin both ps1 n 2
but im sure tht is somtin which is nearly imposible
if u done tht b4...then tell us your comments we would greatly want to hear from you
