I'm interested in constructing the ultimate Playstation RPG library (love the genre to death) and was wandering if the PS2 played every PS1 game. My friend said no, I think he's lying. Anyone know?

Nope, some games have compatibility issues (such as the fighting game "Soul Blade" can't detect controllers).

res0i39c is incorrect in saying "All". Majority can be played. Look it up on wiki.

meh you'll be fine with rpgs. Every single RPG works on my ps2. Trust me i know the genre. It even speeds them up. Just don't play chrono trigger. Slowest loads evar.

Depends on which PS2 you are talking about.... fatty as I recall was more compatible. Remember seeing a list of games that would not playon the slim.... One of them that I remember was Lunar 2.

http://www.us.playstation.com/News/ConsumerAlerts/softwareTitles_75001.html

text for list can be found here: http://www.us.playstation.com/News/ConsumerAlerts(heh, take a gander at the holiday demo disk one.... is that scary or what?)

they seemed to have left out FF11, for some reason..... but being that the slim has no optionfor aharddrive.... FF11 is a given, I guess.
