I got mine when it was released, and it's running great. I usually don't use it a lot, maybe 0-5 hours a week.
P.S.Mine droppedlike a foot with hard force and it still works great.
damn, i can't even remember how long ago I got it. Oh, I got it for Christmas as a gift from my bro....and I bought NCAA 03' the following summer.....SO, that means I must have gotten it in LATE 01'. It still gets played a decent bit by me (football, hockey, socom I (still can't finish it, lol), and a few others...plus it's been my DVD player untill just these past couple of months. My 8 yr old son plays it @ 10 hours every weekend and 5 or so during the week too. It plays just fine. The only "issue"....is the thing makes a little noise/seems to struggle some...when the disk tray comes in and out. That's it. Now, I'm an adult and it's been properly cared for too.....for what that's worth.
I just bought a ps3 80gb and was going to sell my (still in original box, 2 dual shocks) perfect ps1, ps2 and a bunch of games.....but they're all in great shape and I'll probably just keep them for kids to play. Hell, for that matter....I still have an original Sega Genesis w/about 30 games and a perfect GameCube...that NEVER gets played. Sheesh....maybe I should open a used game store, lol !

we had ours for 3 plus years... the reason it broke was because my stepson wasn't looking hwere he was going and tripped over the wire from the controller sending the whole unit up in the air. After it landed the cord in the back of the system was loose. It probably would have lasted forever.. and ever.. and ever..
I had a bigger style PS2 (circa Mid 2002), it it worked great, until a real brat I had to babysit decided to try to take it out to the garage, and he DROPPED THE F-ING THING ON THE CONCRETE FLOOR!!! I played the thing until the disk tray wouldn't open up anymore, so I'm using a Slim PS2 now, but it overheats like hell.Nobarai
All slim PS2s overheat? Oh man, I was thinking about getting one and using it as a DVD player.
At first, I thought this would be a topic about how much longer the PS2 will still be around, then I realized that what you meant was how long does your ps2 last.
Well, I had an original fat PS2 at first for like 2 years before the slim one came out, and when that happened, I sold my original fat PS2 to get the slimmer one, yea I liked it that much from all the pics I saw of it and all. Now I am sitting here and thinking was it all really worth it. My fat PS2 never gave me problems in the 2 years i owned it, and now the newer one crapped out on me after owning it for a little over a year. When it broke, i left it alone for a while and bought me a gamecube and loved it. Now although I still love my gc, i was kinda missin my ps2 and decided to get it fixed (i guess the lasrer on it broke, cuz it won't read and disc). Took like a month to come back and it broke again my first night back. Luckily it did work long enoungh to get in one game of nba 2k7. Now it is broke again and i am completely pissed at it. I guess its back to gold ol' gamecube again. And no, i don't have any of the newer systems yet, but if i were to get one, it probably be the wii, but im still gonna wait at least another year, for the wii library to grow so more. Then i'll pick up the first batch of games at a discount cuz i waited.
