I got a PS2 a year after release and it is still working fine. I've had no problems with it after all this time. I play on it on average 6 hours per week (which is less now since I have a PS3 as well).

I got mine in the second year of its release. It has worked perfectly all the way till now with no signs of slowing down. I run mine like 4-8+ hours every day just about. I watch all my movies on it to. I need to get a new controller though. those pieces of crap break pretty easily. Because of the nature of most games to use the left stick for movement I am constantly wearing out the springs in the left stick and the controller i have now is pretty much sticking forward and is unable to recenter itself. And unfortunately I cant reach the srpings to just fix it because they are under the circuit board for the controller. 3rd party controllers suck just as much if not worse. I wish somebody would make a better controller.

I got mine when it was released, and it's running great. I usually don't use it a lot, maybe 0-5 hours a week.

P.S.Mine droppedlike a foot with hard force and it still works great.

My fat PS2 lived from 2001 to 2006. Now I've been on the slim one ever since, and it's running well. (knock on wood)

ive had my fat ps2 since launch, i do bad things to it like leaving it on the floor, dropping it, leaving it turned on for long periods of time idle, leaving it in my car's trunk to slide around aimlessly amongst junk, and it still runs like a champ. although, ive probably just jinxed it now.

the ps2 is a fine piece of machinery. I've had my fatty now since 2001. I usually play about 1-3 hours a day and I use it to watch dvds too. I hope it doesn't die but it wouldn't be that big of a deal to go out and get a new one. My super nintendo died last summer, talk about a trajedy  not so easy to find those anymore

We got ours about two and a half years ago. we needed to get it fixed once 'cause one of the motors was stuck which prevented us from using it. I use it 14 days each month for a few hours at a time and it still works OK.

damn, i can't even remember how long ago I got it. Oh, I got it for Christmas as a gift from my bro....and I bought NCAA 03' the following summer.....SO, that means I must have gotten it in LATE 01'. It still gets played a decent bit by me (football, hockey, socom I (still can't finish it, lol), and a few others...plus it's been my DVD player untill just these past couple of months. My 8 yr old son plays it @ 10 hours every weekend and 5 or so during the week too. It plays just fine. The only "issue"....is the thing makes a little noise/seems to struggle some...when the disk tray comes in and out. That's it. Now, I'm an adult and it's been properly cared for too.....for what that's worth.

I just bought a ps3 80gb and was going to sell my (still in original box, 2 dual shocks) perfect ps1, ps2 and a bunch of games.....but they're all in great shape and I'll probably just keep them for kids to play. Hell, for that matter....I still have an original Sega Genesis w/about 30 games and a perfect GameCube...that NEVER gets played. Sheesh....maybe I should open a used game store, lol !

I have about 40 PS2 games on my wishlist. There aren't more PS2 blockbusters on the horizon so I think I'll play this console about another 1,5 year.

The more we advance in technology the more things screw up. I've had mine for 2 years, it had to have the laser repaired once (wasn't my fault, it was my sis). My PS1 (which i havn't played for2 years) is probaly on it's 6-7'th year by now. PS3 life expentancy I reckon a year or two without repair.

we had ours for 3 plus years... the reason it broke was because my stepson wasn't looking hwere he was going and tripped over the wire from the controller sending the whole unit up in the air. After it landed the cord in the back of the system was loose. It probably would have lasted forever.. and ever.. and ever..

I had a bigger style PS2 (circa Mid 2002), it it worked great, until a real brat I had to babysit decided to try to take it out to the garage, and he DROPPED THE F-ING THING ON THE CONCRETE FLOOR!!! I played the thing until the disk tray wouldn't open up anymore, so I'm using a Slim PS2 now, but it overheats like hell.

I had mine since 2001 but last year I have been getting the read eye problem where it freezes and makes funny sounds. When it does that, I have to spank it a bit but it works. Some games like RE4, Tekken 5, all racing games never freeze or have problemsbut some games like nfl2k5 have trouble reading. It is still working but I will be picking up the new cheaper compact PS2 coming out soon.

All slim PS2s overheat? Oh man, I was thinking about getting one and using it as a DVD player.

Ive had mine since march 2001 and I have had LOTS of problems with it but it still hasnt died on me yet....though im expecting it to die soon since it hasnt been able to read any of my blue discs since like 2003(which make up a some of my games for it and I really wanna play them again!) and it makes loud noises. I dont play it much anymore though but when i start playing FF12 again I bet its gunna take a crap on me...

At first, I thought this would be a topic about how much longer the PS2 will still be around, then I realized that what you meant was how long does your ps2 last.

Well, I had an original fat PS2 at first for like 2 years before the slim one came out, and when that happened, I sold my original fat PS2 to get the slimmer one, yea I liked it that much from all the pics I saw of it and all. Now I am sitting here and thinking was it all really worth it. My fat PS2 never gave me problems in the 2 years i owned it, and now the newer one crapped out on me after owning it for a little over a year. When it broke, i left it alone for a while and bought me a gamecube and loved it. Now although I still love my gc, i was kinda missin my ps2 and decided to get it fixed (i guess the lasrer on it broke, cuz it won't read and disc). Took like a month to come back and it broke again my first night back. Luckily it did work long enoungh to get in one game of nba 2k7. Now it is broke again and i am completely pissed at it. I guess its back to gold ol' gamecube again. And no, i don't have any of the newer systems yet, but if i were to get one, it probably be the wii, but im still gonna wait at least another year, for the wii library to grow so more. Then i'll pick up the first batch of games at a discount cuz i waited.

I have a launch day one from 2000 that still works perfect and a launch day slim from 2004 that still works perfect. Maybe I'm just lucky, but both my Ps1s still work fine and my Sega CD, Dreamcast and Saturn all still work too. Taking care of your stuff is the name of the game.
