With the impending release of the PS3, I was wondering what everyone else had to say about this question: How long does the PS2 have before it's laid to rest? Or do you guys think that it could have a few years left in it?
Just like what happened to the playstation one really, that was still going for about a year and a half after the inital playstation 2 launch. So i think that it would still go strong but eventually stop around 2008. Not bad life span tho.
The PS2 as a whole is like an old man nearing his final years. It has done its purpose, lived a good life, but still has a few more years left to it. My PS2 on the other hand, should have died a long time ago. But I am keeping it alive. (I repair it myself once per week, lol)
The consoles that are being made after the release of the PS 3 and during the next 4 years are mostly ment for low budget countries were only a lucky few can get a next gen and were the others never arrive. Thats why PS 1 was being produced until recently
I think the PS2 still has a couple more years left. They're still making great games for it and a lot of people aren't even going to switch to the PS3 until it comes down in price.

Yes the price drop of the PS3, I think, will mark the beginning of the end for the PS2, and I would say within 12 months of release.
i know im late to this question but i think the ps2 has a long time ahead of it.I say it is going to be another atari and all those other systems that go away but aint forgotten i say people will probably figure out a way to keep making games for it long after its off store shelfs
