ok ive only seen the rockband game itself. not with the perifeals. my question is this. if i bought just the game would a guitar hero controller work with it? i know u can play drums and sing but all i wanna do is play guitar on it.
Then get guitar hero. there's no sense in paying $270 JUST to play the guitar.
Just because Rock Band is the "thing" and even though it's "newer" "fresher" and/or "cooloer looking" than guitar Hero doesnt mean that you should get it. (If you're thinking under this mindset).
Going to play guitar? Guitar Hero

Then again, you could be filthy rich and not give a damn about wasting money like that, but I think that the majority of people would agree with me (?)
i tried to play the gutair hero gutair on rock band. it worked but sometimes it will say "the controller has been changed" or something like that. after that it exit the song andu have to try it again. but that because i only tried to do it for 5 minute. maybe if i keep trying it will work.

well some ppl might have all the gutair hero(like me ^^) and they want to play another gutair game. and he/she said he/she was going to buy just the game not the whole set :p. so that would be like $50
