I was thinking of getting Persona 3, but do i need the other Shin Megami Tensei games in order to play it? Should I get all of them anyway?

Check Gamestop's website for copies near you and call around. I'll bet you can find one for around 45 or 50 on Nocturne. It's well worth it. 100+ would probably be e-bay (though last time I looked, it wasn't that high, but that was several months ago)
Yeah 185 sounds high, I got quoted $90 for a local gamestore, but he just gets it off amazon, I just waiting and watched tons of auctions on amazon and ebay and got a fair price of $58 which isnt any more then any other new game you buy now days.
But to the topic, get Persona 3, its a really solid game. SMT is a different set of games and Id say try P3 before you shell out the cash for something you may not like or be worth it to you.
i just wanna clear something about this game... is this like Final Fantasy games?
i mean, not a sequel at all? every game in the series has no connection to each game? (like FFV FFVI FFVII no connections on story at all) (except ofcourse at FFX and FFX-2) ^^
so if i get SMT:P3 im not missing anything connected on the story from P1 and P2?
Most of the games in the Shin Megami Tensei series actually do sort of tie in with one another, but not in any kind of order. They're like alternate universes that involve a lot of the same monsters, personas, themes, etc., but the latest ones haven't really been sequels. In fact, the only sequels in the series that I can think of were SMT1 and 2, and then Digital Devil Sagas 1 and 2. Put simply, certain SMT games might be sequels, but they are all pretty much stand alone games, so you could buy Persona 3 and not have to buy Nocturne, or Devil Summoner, or even the 2 Persona games for the PS1.
My advice: Get P3 because it's a great game, even though it will become a bit repetitive after a while; then, if you're willing to shell out the money, buy Nocturne, or the newer SMT Devil Summoner game, or even Digital Devil Saga. Each game has something to offer, and if you're a fan of angels/demons/mythological creatures, then the games are able to make awesome use of those beings.

My friend they have NOTHING related to SMT on gamestop website(excsept maybe persona3). I just went to EBay and a new SEALED copy is $185 and a used u can get for $80.
It costs so much cause its "original" or whatever. Just save yourself the trouble(and money) and get P3

Devil Summoner sucks... Too many random encounters. And its not an opinion, its a fact. (check reviews on the site if you dont belive me)

You just don't know the secret to ebgames/gamestop site is all.... On the very bottom of a list of games after a search or clicking a category, you'll see a thing called *show* backordered or something like that.... key thing is that *show* is clickable.... so click it.
After that you can search for stuff that's not in stock on the online site. You can do that local store availability searchthing for a selected game, too; after doing that....
Case in point: http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=938922
See.... it is on their site... and now you can do the search for local availibility for it.... (even if it isn't accurate.) Price isnt' on the link, but on the search it's listed as 59.99 used.... so it is pretty pricy even at gamestop.

Reviews don't state facts, they state opinions.
Devil Summoner is actually what I would recommend to someone completely new to the series, due to the simplified fusion system. However, I think Persona 3 might just be an even better introduction to the Shin Megami Tensei universe. Devil Summoner is a game that you really already have to like SMT a lot to get into.
The TC will really do themselves a favor by getting into this series. SMT offers unique experiences that can't be found anywhere else.
