In this order: GOW2, Tales of The Abyss, anything in the cheapo bin, Barbie Horse Adventure, then MAYBE Rule of Rose. Rule of Rose was a horrible attempt for a survival horror game.
i find myself rather sceptical about rule of rose heard that the game-play itself is rather cheesy which leads fan-service downhill however i also heard that the story is very entertaining
Unless you like pure story, I'd not recommend Rule of Rose. It's story is deep with all kinds of hidden meanings, but the gameplay is the worst, ever.
I suggest 'Haunting Ground', instead. Has a weak story in comparison, but the gameplay is a lot better than Rule of Rose. They even managed to remove just about all loadtimes. 'Rule of Rose' on the other was filled with long load screens.
They are so different its hard to compare them really, it all depends on what you like.
I've heard great things about Tales of the Abyss and like those above said, you should be able to finish GOW 2 in a weekend. so you could rent GOW 2 and buy Tales of the Abyss.
You might want to get Tales of the Abyss first anyway, cuz it's already getting hard to find.
Rule of Rose was awesome, the story was great and i replayed the game 5+ times.

No. What makes it bad is that the collision detection is the worst I've ever seen in a game and the excessive load times don't help it any. The gameplay was lacking. The story is really the only thing Rule of Rose has going for it and that's only if you give the story the chance to develop.
I haven't played Tales yet but have played both GOW2 abd Rule of Rose. Rule of Rose is a slow game with amazing anddisturbingFMV's. GOW2 on the hand, is an instant classic. The game has it all. Great graphics, gameplay, storyand FMVs makes this a must for anyone owning a PS2.
