games mostly create a fantasy, and its a good means to escape and explore fantasy world, it even works on sports game, as in very few instances do people get to play/coach etc.. professional teams and such
games are like movies and books, but they are more interactive with the environment they produce

I agree with Shiram. I use games to do stuff I cant do in real life. Such as be a race driver, bounty hunter, criminal, sports star etc etc. Its a great escape and alot of the time allows you to let off some steam and relax.

Unlike movies, video games are interactive.  You actually get involved in the story & role, and use your brain to make it to the end (some games more so than others).  And the video games of today, with their realistic graphics & professionally written storylines, are just like playing a movie.  I find it funny that some people still consider video games for kids, or they see no value in them, but they'll plop their asses down on a couch and watch movies...

Personally what has always attracted me to video games is the story. Not so much that you are in a fantasy world, but that a good game can tell a timeless tale, it can question our realities, and help people to see things in a new way. Not every game accomplishes this, but when they do, they are a priceless experience. NOt only that, they are like those "choose your own adventure books", but for adults and even more interactive. There's nothing like experiencing a great story, and feelinglike you had some active part in that story to boot.

Oh, and since God of War came out, I have found I also like video games for their ability to express the most brutal of violence and no one gets hurt. I mean there's nothing like demolishing everything in sight.

The ability to be and do things that you know that is wrong or impossible to do in the real life. I think that, even the people that really like movies, they´re starting to understand the big videogame industry and start to play great titles!

In the past people had limited choices as far as entertainment went...We started out with just sitting by a fire and telling or hearing a story , painting something, or playing some instrument....some time later books appeared ...then we found a way to make movies.....then tv....you get my point...

The thing is that now were able to interact with the story in whole new ways and they arent just read or seen. Imagine a few years from now when electronic gadgets will be an even more important and serious part of people life, kids might just be studying (clasic video games) just like they would study some piece of clasic literature. I think video game truly are the new art and most of us were witness to Its Birth  (those of us around during the Atari Age).

Video Games are awesome especialy when their good enough to draw you into the experience, inmerse you in a thrilling story and make you just forget about the rest of the world..

By the way i think were using the term next gen TOO liberaly.....ok better technical specs..but I think the TRUE NEXT GEN will be a fully imersive virtual reality experience. Thats a long way from where we are now

Video games gives you a clear objective or task to complete/solve which feels rewarding to finally accomplish. The task is unambigous since you usually know who the good and bad guys are and what you need to do (after some trial-and error) to be succesfull within that world of the game, unlike in real life where reality is more complex and you don't always know how to act/behave. Games have a story and purpose and you feel like you're contributing to the outcome (as you said), making a change for the better, makes you feel like a smart man or woman of action. And "the good" eventually defeating "the evil" is always beautiful and consoling, and quite possily an inspiration for action in real life as well, although I'm not talking about war now since a real war or violence or death never will be as simple as in a video game...I think video games (like any art form) gives you a mirror of the themes and aspects and possibilities in life which you don't normally come by in your "ordinary" everyday existance and gives you a chance to experience their feeling (or feel their experience?) and to cope with and give vent to the darker sides of life and the human soul...And learning by doing or at least trying is probably as important as learning by reading or watching, at least as fun.. Most noticeably it's an engaging activity, making you live in the eye of the moment, testing your reflexes and making you forget about yourself and the world...all there is...is right before you..and you're one with the character/object...against all the obstacles and wrong-doers..getting your revenge!

Cause they provide entertainment at its best: Game, videos, popcorn, soda, beer, in your house, with friends, with family, with girlfriend, alone, anytime, anyway...

 It's the best !!!

Some people don't even play them and judge. Most people that believe a game is wrong (like many moms with GTA) haven't even played the game. They don't even try them and judge so how are they gonna know about them. Guess that they believe it is the old days.

I cant possibly imagine a world without videogames.sad for the people that dont know what theyare...Joshy485
