I hope you are kidding. Bose is garbage. You can do much, much better than Bose. Go to audioholics.com or avsforum.com and they'll be able to give you some great advice on a decent setup. Just dont' mention Bose or they'll laugh you out of the forum.

that one is a bit open ended, there are so many options, plus we dont know your set up tv wise, space, what kind of hook ups your hoping to use. etc. if i were you, i would go to some of the audio forums, for example the polk audio boards. those are filled with guys that will help you out best bang for the buck, and they dont just support polk, although they do have some nice speakers, a lot of them have stuff for sale, or can lead you to some nice used stuff for a fraction of the price.

I have an Onkyo 7.1 receiver which cost just $270 I believe. A Bic Subwoofer for $250 5 Valendyne speakers for $199.00 plus free shipping. Not sure if they are still doing this special on the speakers though. It is a really nice cheap setup.

Check out:

www.onecall.com

For your price range check out a Harmon Kardon or Onkyo Reciever with Athena, Polk, Boston Acoustic or Inifinty speakers.

I bought the BOSE Tri-Port headphones, they are freaking amazing for headphones, but I seen the display home theater system from BOSE at the store, garbage. It's like a company touting that size doesn't matter, all their speakers are small and they think this whole "wave-system" thing is why they don't need big speakers, psh. Go SONY for home theater, all the way.

ouch, he said $1000 for the whole system, not just the receiver, ha. all kidding aside, i dont know if with $1000 he can make good use of a 7.1 HDMI while still having nice speaker set ups including a bass tube, but i guess it depends how thrifty you are

i dont know if going all sony is the best idea, you can usually score a nice Denon receiver for a good price if you look around, my pops has a SVS bass tube, that thing is amazing, some nice polks, or your favorite brand. the guy is working on a budget, and while sony makes great stuff, they always have a price tag to go along with it.

For $1000 i would just stick to 5.1 surround IMO. I personally spent about 2 grand on mine and it is only 5.1. Check out avsforum.com, they will help you out more than this site.
