Wow, I guess Sony really DOES have the whiniest fanbase ever.

I think it's awesome, I can't wait until my satellite Internet is back up so I can go download it. I bought a PS2-to-USB adapter ages ago for my PC, and it's nice to know I'll actually get to put it to use with the PS3 now. Yay for vibration! (That was not a dirty comment in any way. Or was it?  >_>)

The PS1 games are cool too. Maybe now I can actually play the cool PS1 games I missed without having to get 'em used off Amazon.

Seriously. I thought people were waiting to be able to play the downloadable games on the PS3. What the hell happened to everyone? This is a great update. The only thing I want now is custom wallpapers and Home and I'm set. I can do without custom soundtracks. That's why developers pay composers. Who am I to take their job.  

I have read you need a PSP pluged in the PS3 to be able to play the downloaded ps1 games on the ps3 does anybody know if this is true?

Why are you people being cry babies!? The way I see it, is it does not matter what is in the update just as long as they keep adding features. The 360 gets what...an update every blue-moon, when Sony has been giving us update after update. It's just a matter of time before you get what you want, so be patient! Oh man! He took my come out and moonwalk line! I have to copyright every joke I say on gamespot. Anyways, this update is good for those intrested in downloading PS games. Personally, I could care less about this update. All I really want as far as downloads go is HOME anything else is minor.

I saw this news on PSU.com.  But there's no info. on a 1.7 update on the playstation update page.  Once they release an update, they post the attributes on their page.  I don;t think any update has been released yet.

Besides, and this may have already been said, the info. given by the O.P. is incorrect.  You cannot download PSOne games unless your PSP is connected.   At least that's what the PSU.com article said.

Nope i'm in the Uk and 1.70 is available to download via PS3 it's just not available from the site yet.. i'm happy with the download because they have added more BC support with Guitar hero II being one of the games that works, i just ordered an logic 3 adapter from gameplay to allow the use of the GH controller. :)

It says nothing about dvd's be upscaled to blu ray. THINK ABOUT IT! That would defeat the whole purpose of have blu ray dvd's.

PS3 doens't need to surpass the xbox, its going in a different directions. xbox doesn't have old titles they can dL, bc it was non existence in PS1 era, and it certainly doesn't have Home that we will be getting... Why compare two services that way? what is more important? You get to play games online for free, to tell u the truth, i am not renewing my xbox after this year...i am slowly migrating to PS3; unified friend list, whatever man, I have been playing on the PC for ages without a unified list; they will add it when Home comes but right now its not as big of a deal as everyone thinks it is.

Also, PS3 network is really not that far behind IMO..it's coming up a hell lot faster than any other console, half a year, and this is what PSN looks like, give it one more year..PSN will blow everything away. This is coming from someone who owns all the systems and i am just giving my insight at how fast things are evloving for each sys.. Nintendo has a crap load of work to do, all i have been getting is weahter channel (useless) and some VC 8/16bits, which i can play at abandonware website for free..

You guys are freaking hypocrits. Do you have any idea that the PS1 games are basically our Virtual Console as it is to Wii?? Why the hell are ppl so excited about Wii getting crap ass 8/16 bit games back, and when we can potentially get FF7 8 9, Chrono Cross, Xenogears and such back on our pS3 and ppl start saying it's useless. go over to the Wii board, VC is all they play..no games for Wii other than party games and mario/zelda right now. This is our 4000+ titles of back library man, treasure it! They stop selling alot of these games already, now jack up PS1 game production rate, and our "virtual console" is golden man, it will beat the crap out of xbox and wii's downloadable content in no time..of course we still have original titles like calling all cars coming in next week.

 

I am sorry i sound like a total fan boy on this reply, i am just angry ppl being double standard on Sony. Update is good no matter what it is, because updates fix things and add features. Which defines the value of the console..and we paid 600 for it, why would we not want them to keep improving it?? what u guys smoking
