30-40% audio/visual improvement?

In the latest edition of GI, the infamous "good bad and ugly" article said...

"GOOD

Technical officers at Sony have claimed that the Playstation 3's audio and visual quality could be improved by 30 to 40 percent by further firmware updates. Sony has already used these to add features to the system."

What does this mean? Is it goign to allow for more antialiasing and antisitrophic filtering in every game by using more of the processors poweror something? I don't see how it's possible to suddenly make games, movies and sound in those games and movies suddenly be 30-40% better. Any ideas?

I've read that in this month's GI as well... Interesting read. :)

Well, to be fair, the 1.80 firmware update has made upscaling of PS1/PS2 games and DVDs possible, making them look better... I think it's entirely possible. :)

so does that mean gamers mag and Some sites say 360 got a stronger Gpu but does that mean were gonna be seein games in visual much stonger and better then the 360's from a weaker GpuWhiteknight19

the original xbox had a weaker GPU than the PS2 but it looked arguably better. it all depends on how devs take advantage of it, and one HUGE advantage of the ps3 is that the CELL can help the RSX with rendering or post-processing

Maybe for those who own one now and if ps3 is popular enough game makers will keep making games ala ps2. But technology advances rapidly and manufacturing costs favor newer tech and ten years is a really long time so I don't think any console can hold out that long against ... competition.

Like maybe some popular manufacturer who has severe reliability problems with its console has to fix it and of course integrates the latest technology at the time (guess who). Or some even more popular manufacturer with archaic architecture and limited future sales potential has to upgrade its platform and of course integrates the latest technology at the time (guess who).

But heh compitition is a good thing, so just think what that ps4 will be like someday. :)
