I currently have the 60 gig since launch. My question is, what's the difference between the 40 gig and the 80 gig other than the HDD size.

It's been discontinued. Good luck finding one...

If you really want one, you can find a lot online.

The 40 gb can only play ps1 games (in terms of BC), it has only 2 usb ports (instead of four) and it doesn't have those memory card/slot reader things...

So it doesn't download the appropriate emulator to play PS2 games? Like the 360 does.

Nope, no ps2 compatibility whatsoever. That's why I'm going for the 60 or the 80 gb. :)

Ya the 40 has 0 bc for ps2 games. Not sure on PS1 but for PS2 they removed the option of bc there. 80GB still has bc though through software emulation.

And for the TC good luck finding a 60gb ps3. They stopped making them in the summer.

PS2 compatibility? WHo plays PS2 games anyway? IF I wanted to play PS2 games I would play them on my PS2. I buying a PS3 to play PS3 GAMES not old games. That's why the 40GB looks appealing to me. And in my opinion the 80GB is the most useless SKU. Go for 60 (If you want BC) or 40Gb.

if you find the 60 gig at a reasonable price - get that one. Emotion engine rocks. A friend of mine recently bought the 80 gig Motorstorm package and seriously the PS2 BC sucks. At least I tried FFXII and RE4 and 60 gig is a lot better

I hate those arguments. You buy a PS3, but youll probably have a lot of great PS2 games which people still play. Why not play it on the PS2, yeah we all could do that, but no argument here - its a lot easier to just have one system. And besides, if you own a PS3, most probably enjoy from a wireless controller, a great commodity compared with the ps2 controller. So please really think about what you are saying, you sound like a person who works for sony.

I agree, the argument is absolutely stupid. Another reason why, when I'm lookin for some Playstation goodness even though there are a major lack of PS3 games out right now, I just hop onto Ebay, grab a PS2 game I've always wanted to play for cheap and play through it flawlessly on my 60gb...

BC is very important, especially for ruts.

Awesome. I also like to have 1 system hooked up with 1 hdmi to surround sound, upscaled PS2 games, and no memory cards- not to mention it is only a matter of time before the PS2 stops working. sony promised hardware bc and then took it away- lame.

Why would you not want to be able to play PS2 games? I still have my stockpile of old PS2 games and I play them every now and then.

I still have the 60 GB~ Planning on hijacking the HDD out and cramming in a nice 200-300 GB one. Too bad they cost a lot =/
