I'm sorry for asking this since I'm pretty sure someone has posted something like this but I'm at the brink of buying a PSP 3000 but when I look at the current selection of rpgs, there isn't very many. I looked a bit in the future and noticed a lot of jrpgs that look fantastic but no one is sure if they're going to make it stateside.
What good RPGs? And no, they are probably not arriving ever.
You've got Silver Star Harmony that was just released, and then Birth By Sleep in the fall. I don't think there's anything else coming out is there?
Anyway I'm in the same boat as you. I have 10 PSP games currently with more since 2009 that I want to buy. Yet I still haven't decided on buying a PSP yet. I'm waiting till the fall since Sony might release another PSP, and then if not in 2 years time there will definitely be a better PSP or a good price on the PSP 3000.
Well Lunar Silver Star Harmony that just came out is good. Upcoming there is Birth By Sleep as mentioned... Valkyrie Chronicles 2 and Persona 3 Portable. I don't know what else. At the very least you're a lot better off than the poor saps who bought it in 2005, lol.
I love my PSP, in fact I got a Go late November, but it isn't the best system to get if you primarily want RPG's (trust me, I've had a psp since its original launch). Not only are many not released, but the majority of the ones that are, tend to be hit or miss. But there are a handful that come out every year, not to mention, there are a bunch out now (over the past 5 years of accumulation) that have already been released that you can catch up on. Other thing to hold out hope for is the release of ps1 classics RPG's like Grandia, FFVII, FFVIII, etc.
The re-working of "Final Fantasy" (in conjunction with the 20 year anniversary) is a game I've been enjoying lately. And of course, "Silver Star Harmony" is fantastic.
I'm highly looking forward to Valkyria Chronicles 2, Persona 3 Portable, and FFXIII Agito. I imported VC2, but I still can't wait to get the English version of it.
Overall, the DS/DSi has a better lineup of RPGs (I got the PSP primarily for Gran Tursimo, and Sid Meier's Pirates). However, there are some good ones out there. You can't go wrong with Final Fantasy Tactics and Dissidia (one of the more pleasant surprises). Also, don't forget FF VII and VIII!
I will join the chorus and recommend Lunar. Some future RPGs I'm looking forward to are Valkyria Chronicles 2 and possibly Ys Seven (no word if it's coming here or not). In the meantime, Crimson Gem Saga and Final Fantasy Tactics would be good choices.
