I want a new TV that makes the PS3 games really clear but I do not really understand all the different HD formats and all that and I was just wondering if anyone could help me.  Any suggests on what TV? I am looking at between 20-30 inches..

Get a pen and write this down.  Go to a local electronics store, they will help you out.

Tell them you want a T.V. including:

  • HDMI input
  • HD LCD
  • 1080i or 1080p (1080p is a lot more expensive)
  • Component Cable input
  • HDMI cable compatible with PS3

All HD LCDs do support 1080i, but most all at or under 32inches are 1366*768 native resolution, so none actually can show 1080i, they only convert it to that 1366*768 resolution, which is closeer to 720p (1280*720) The only tvs that can actually do 1080i are the old CRT tube based ones. And 1080p LCDs usually start around 42inches often.

For his HDMI cable, he should go to monoprice.com and pay about $6 there, a store will try to trick him into a $150 HDMI cable that makes no difference in picture despite what they might say.

If he goes LCD, he needs to make sure it's not too cheap otherwise he'll have poor blacks and other issues. I wonder what his budget is.

Im just looking for a fairly inexpensive tv probably between $200-$500.  Im not really looking for a big 55 inch tv. I just wanted something that makes the PS3 look better.

The Olevia 32inch 232v is a decent tv. Not the best blacks, but once calibrated it's a great tv. You can get it at Circuit City often for $599, last weekend K-mart had it for $499. There's also a 10% off AAA coupon at CC if you are a member there, for use online or at the store. I ended up paying $495. I paid $560 after ther AAA coupon, then I price matched it to the K-mart, which their 110% price match difference took off another $5 on top of matching the $499 price. What was crazy was last week the tv was back at $899 at Circuit City when K-mart had it $499. So if you got CC to pricematch with their 110%, you'd end up with a $460 price.

Here's a hot deal right now, a 32inch LCD for $399 after rebate:

Also some discussion on this deal with some user opinions:
